  • Rotating surface discs with 20 HP rotors provide mixing and aeration, maintaining a channel velocity of 1 fps and provide 86 lbs. of oxygen per hour.
  • Two (400 HP) Turblex centrifugal blowers increase oxygen transfer to the VLRs and Sludge Conditioning Tanks. They provide up to 8,800 scfm at 9.30 psig each.
  • A flow splitter structure precedes the two 95 ft. Dia. / 16 ft. deep Secondary Clarifiers.
  • Solids are returned (RAS) to the VLR influent channel by three Flygt 40 HP RAS pumps.
  • Two 5 HP WAS pumps pump waste solids to the Aerobic Sludge Conditioning Tanks for stabilization.
  • Flow from the Secondary Clarifiers goes through the UV channel (formerly part of the chlorine contact basin)
  • UV Equipment consists of three banks (6 modules of 40 lamps each) of Ozonia (Suez) Aquaray 40 High Output Vertical lamp system in a single channel at 12.0 MGD flow
  • UV design – minimum dose of 30 mJ/cm2 to a peak flow of 12 MGD at 65 % UVT
  • Effluent discharge is by gravity through a 175 ft. long, 30 inch pipe with 6 in. diffusers in the Des Moines river. 24 of the diffuser ports are spaced at 5 ft. intervals, with 6 of the ports spaced at 10 ft. intervals. The diffuser increases the mixing zone of the effluent with the Des Moines River.
  • Discharge is normally by gravity flow, but during periods of high river elevation, effluent is pumped with two 30 HP storm water pumps.
  • A 2 meter Roediger Belt Filter Press is used to produced cake, which is in turn stored on a 75 ft. by 225 ft. covered, concrete storage pad.
  • A contracted biosolids hauler / applicator land applies the biosolids to agricultural land.
