Post date |

Tired of Complicated Bill Payments? We’ve Got Your Back!

Hey there! I’ve been a Midwest Natural Gas customer for years now, and lemme tell you – figuring out all the different ways to pay your gas bill can be confusing! That’s why I put together this super helpful guide that breaks down all your payment options. Whether you prefer paying online, through automatic withdrawal, or the old-fashioned way with checks, I’ve got all the info you need right here!

Why Understanding Your Payment Options Matters

Look, nobody likes paying bills (I certainly don’t!), but knowing your options makes the whole process way less stressful. Midwest Natural Gas provides several different ways to pay your monthly bill, and each has its own pros and cons.

As someone who’s tried literally EVERY method they offer, I can give you the real scoop on what works best depending on your situation. So let’s dive in!

Online Payment Options: The Digital Revolution

Customer Online Portal – Convenient but Watch Those Fees!

Midwest Natural Gas now offers an online portal for customers – it’s pretty sweet! You can

  • View your bills
  • Set up an account
  • Pay bills directly
  • Opt for paperless billing

To access the portal, just click on the Customer Portal Access button on their website. BUT HEADS UP – there are some convenience fees to be aware of:

  • Using a bank account: $1.00 flat fee
  • Using credit/debit cards: 2.9% + $0.30 of total amount

I personally use this method when I’m in a rush and don’t mind the small fee for convenience The portal is user-friendly, but sometimes takes a minute to load properly

Payment Service Network (PSN)

Another online option is using Payment Service Network You can use this service to pay with debit or credit cards by

  • Calling PSN at 1-877-885-7968
  • Visiting their website through the Midwest Natural Gas site

Important notes about PSN:

  • $3.30 transaction fee per payment
  • Maximum payment of $600 per transaction

I’ve used this a couple times when I needed to use a specific credit card. It works well but that transaction fee adds up over time!

Pay by Phone

If you prefer speaking to someone or using an automated system, you can pay by phone at 1-844-200-2038. Just have your account number ready when you call!

Automatic Payment Options: Set It and Forget It!

Electronic Bill Pay – My Personal Favorite!

This is honestly THE BEST option if you’re forgetful like me! Midwest Natural Gas offers Electronic Bill Pay that automatically pays your bill on the due date directly from your checking or savings account.

The best part? There’s currently NO CHARGE for this service! To sign up:

  1. Download the application from their website
  2. Fill it out completely
  3. Submit it to Midwest Natural Gas

I’ve been using this for 2 years now and haven’t had to worry about late fees once. It’s seriously life-changing for busy people!

Bill Pay Through Your Financial Institution

You can also set up bill payments through your own bank’s bill pay system. This can be:

  • A one-time payment
  • A monthly recurring payment

Any fees for this service would come from your bank, not Midwest Natural Gas. Just make sure you enter your customer number EXACTLY as it appears on your billing statement!

I tried this method for a few months, but found the direct Electronic Bill Pay from Midwest was more reliable for me.

Traditional Payment Methods: Old School But Reliable

Mail or In Person

Some folks still prefer the classic methods, and that’s totally fine! You can:

  • Mail a check or money order
  • Pay in person at a Midwest Natural Gas office with:
    • Check
    • Money order
    • Cash

I still do this occasionally when I’m near their office and have some other errands to run in the area. The staff is always friendly and helpful if you have questions about your bill.

Pay Stations

Midwest Natural Gas also has pay stations in various communities. You can find the location closest to you on their website by clicking “Find a Pay Station.”

This is super handy if you’re not near a main office but still want to pay in person!

Special Payment Plans: When You Need Financial Flexibility

Budget Plan – Smooth Out Those Winter Bills!

Winter heating bills can be brutal! The Budget Plan helps make payments more manageable throughout the year. Here’s how it works:

  • Midwest Natural Gas estimates your annual gas consumption
  • They multiply this by estimated rates through the end of the budget year
  • The total is divided by 12 for equal monthly payments
  • The budget year runs August to July

How to sign up:

  1. Download the Budget Plan Enrollment Application from their website
  2. Fill it out and mail it with your payment
  3. If you’re already enrolled in Automatic Payment, just call your local office

Important things to know:

  • You’re automatically re-enrolled each year if you maintain payments
  • Budget amounts are recalculated in August and February
  • Late payments can get you removed from the program
  • Your account must be at zero balance by the July due date

I used this when I first moved to a house with gas heat and was shocked by the January bill! It really helped me plan my monthly expenses better.

Deferred Payment Agreement – When You’re Struggling

If you’ve fallen behind on payments, Midwest Natural Gas offers Deferred Payment Agreements for residential customers. This is a negotiated payment plan to help avoid service disconnection.

To set this up:

  • Contact Midwest Natural Gas directly
  • OR download the Deferred Payment Agreement Form from their website and bring it to your local office

When I lost my job a few years back, this program literally saved me from losing heat in the middle of winter. Don’t be embarrassed to use it if you need it!

Understanding Your Bill

Reading your utility bill can sometimes feel like deciphering a foreign language! If you’re confused, Midwest Natural Gas has a helpful resource called “How To Read Your Bill” on their website that shows a sample bill with explanations highlighted in red.

Still confused? Just call your local Midwest Natural Gas office and they’ll walk you through it. Their customer service is actually pretty good compared to other utilities I’ve dealt with.

Emergency Contacts – Keep These Handy!

In case of a gas emergency, Midwest Natural Gas has a 24/7 emergency line: 1-877-817-3119.

Always keep this number somewhere accessible – like your phone contacts or on your refrigerator! Gas leaks are serious business and require immediate attention.

Service Areas

Midwest Natural Gas serves several counties including:

  • Buffalo County
  • La Crosse County
  • Monroe County
  • Polk County
  • St. Croix County
  • Trempealeau County

My Personal Experience with Midwest Natural Gas Billing

When I first signed up with Midwest, I was kinda overwhelmed by all the options. I started with mailing checks each month (and occasionally forgetting, oops!) before moving to the online portal. The convenience fees annoyed me after a while, so I eventually switched to Electronic Bill Pay.

For me, the automatic withdrawal has been the best solution – no fees, no hassle, and I never have to remember to pay! During the rough pandemic months, their customer service team was super understanding when I needed to make special arrangements.
