Understanding Your CEMC Billing Options
CEMC offers flexible billing options to help you manage your account better:
Traditional Billing
The standard approach – you receive a monthly bill for energy used during your most recent billing period.
Levelized Billing
Great for budgeting! Your bill is calculated as the average of the previous 12 months’ energy usage at current rates. To qualify:
- Must have 12+ months of continuous service at the same location
- No returned checks
- No more than one late payment
For more info, contact Member Services at 800-987-2362.
Prepaid Billing
Perfect if you prefer pay-as-you-go! Add money to your account before electricity is consumed. Benefits include:
- Alternative to traditional billing
- Reduced security deposit requirements
- Flexible payment on existing balances
- Account monitoring via SmartHub®
- Low balance notifications
Some limitations apply. Call 800-987-2362 to learn more.
Preferred Due Date
You can select your preferred due date as the 3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th, 15th, 18th, 21st, or 24th of the month. This option works with both traditional and levelized billing. Contact CEMC at 800-987-2362 to set it up.
Important CEMC Billing FAQs
When is my bill due?
Your bill is due 15 days after it was mailed from CEMC. If not paid by the due date, service is subject to disconnection after 5 business days.
Can the disconnect date be extended?
CEMC doesn’t typically offer extensions or payment arrangements. If you’re struggling, consider:
- Enrolling in Pre-Paid Meter (PPM) Billing
- Contacting a local Energy Assistance Agency
- Applying for Medical Hardship status (where applicable)
What if I move? Do I need another deposit?
CEMC will transfer your deposit to your new location if:
- Service can be disconnected within 3 days at your former location
- All past due balances are paid upon transfer
How can I calculate my bill?
CEMC offers an online Rate Calculator on their website to help you estimate your monthly bill based on kilowatt usage.
What’s the TVA Fuel Cost Adjustment?
This is a pass-through charge that reflects TVA’s varying fuel costs from month to month. CEMC has no control over this adjustment, and every penny collected goes directly to TVA.
Avoiding CEMC Payment Scams
Unfortunately, scammers sometimes pose as CEMC representatives. Here’s what to remember:
CEMC will NEVER call you and ask for banking or payment information.
If someone calls claiming to be from CEMC and requests payment information, hang up immediately! For secure payments, use:
- SmartHub® app
- Call the official number: (800) 987-2362

My Personal Experience with CEMC Bill Pay
When I first moved into CEMC’s service area, I wasn’t aware of all these payment options. I would drive to the office each month to pay in person, wasting valuable time. Once I discovered SmartHub®, everything changed! Now I can view my usage patterns, which helped me realize my old water heater was the culprit behind my high bills.
The levelized billing option has been a lifesaver for my family budget too. No more sky-high summer bills when the AC runs constantly!
Tips for Managing Your CEMC Account
- Sign up for alerts: Get notifications when bills are due or when usage spikes
- Monitor daily usage: Identify trends and problem areas
- Consider autopay: Never miss a payment
- Choose levelized billing: For easier budgeting
- Explore energy-saving programs: CEMC offers various energy solutions programs
Final Thoughts
CEMC has made significant efforts to provide convenient, flexible payment options for all their members. Whether you prefer digital methods like SmartHub® or traditional approaches like in-person payments, there’s an option that fits your lifestyle.
I highly recommend exploring SmartHub® if you haven’t already. The ability to track your electricity usage alone has saved me hundreds over the past year by helping identify energy waste.
Remember, your electricity bill isn’t just about the cost of energy but also how much you use. By taking control of both your payment methods and usage habits, you can manage your CEMC bills effectively.
Have you tried any of these payment methods? Which one works best for your situation? I’d love to hear your experiences in the comments!
