Hey there, fellow EnerStar members! Today I wanna talk about something we all deal with every month – paying our electric bills As someone who’s been an EnerStar Electric Cooperative customer for years, I’ve tried pretty much every payment method they offer. Let me share what I’ve learned about making your EnerStar bill pay experience as smooth as possible
EnerStar is our local cooperative that’s actually owned and operated by us – the members. They’ve really stepped up their game when it comes to payment options, giving us plenty of convenient ways to handle our monthly statements. Whether you’re tech-savvy or prefer the traditional methods, there’s definitely something that’ll work for your lifestyle.
Why Choosing the Right Payment Method Matters
Before diving into all the options, let’s talk about why picking the right payment method is important:
- It can save you time and hassle
- Some methods help you avoid late payments
- The right option fits your personal schedule and preferences
- It gives you better control over your finances
- Some methods provide better payment tracking
I’ve found that once I settled on the right payment method, my bill-paying stress disappeared completely. No more rushing to make payments or worrying about forgetting the due date!
7 Ways to Pay Your EnerStar Electric Bill
EnerStar has really made an effort to provide flexible payment options. Here are all the different ways you can pay your bill
1. Pay Online (Desktop or Mobile App)
This is my personal favorite because it’s so convenient EnerStar gives us two digital options
- Website Payment: Head to the EnerStar homepage and look for their payment portal
- SmartHub App: Download their mobile app for on-the-go payments
SmartHub is seriously amazing – not only can you pay your bill, but you can also:
- View your billing history
- Track your energy usage
- Report outages
- Sign up for AutoPay
- And much more!
I remember once when I was traveling and suddenly remembered my bill was due. I just pulled out my phone, opened the SmartHub app, and paid it within minutes. Such a lifesaver!
2. AutoPay
If you’re forgetful like me, AutoPay is your best friend. Once you set it up, payments are automatically deducted from your checking account on the bill’s due date (the 24th of each month).
Setting up AutoPay is super easy through SmartHub, either online or through the app. I’ve been using it for about a year now, and it’s amazing how much mental space it frees up not having to remember to pay the bill every month.
3. Pay by Phone
Sometimes the simplest solution is just to make a quick phone call. EnerStar’s payment line is available 24/7 at 844-975-2743.
When paying by phone, you can use:
- E-check
- Debit card
- Credit card
You can also set up automatic payments through the phone system if that’s easier for you.
4. Remote Payment Locations
This option is great if you prefer paying in cash or don’t have reliable internet access. EnerStar has partnered with InComm and MoneyGram to offer instant cash payments at various locations:
- Walmart
- Dollar General
- CVS
- Speedway
- And many more!
Just be aware there’s usually a small fee for this service. Last time I used it at Walmart, I think it was around $1.50 – not bad for the convenience!
5. In-Person at the EnerStar Office
Sometimes it’s nice to handle things face-to-face. You can visit the EnerStar office located at 11597 IL Highway 1, Paris, to make your payment in person.
Their office hours are:
- Monday through Friday
- 7:30 am to 4:00 pm
I usually drop by when I have other errands in town. The staff is always friendly and helpful if you have any questions about your bill.
6. Night Drop Box
Can’t make it during regular business hours? No problem! EnerStar has a convenient drive-up payment box in the front of their parking lot.
A few tips for using the night drop:
- Enter from the north side
- The box is positioned on the driver’s side
- Payments received after 7:00 am get posted the next business day
This has saved me several times when I’ve remembered my bill late in the evening after the office closed!
7. Pay by Mail
For those who prefer the traditional route, you can always mail your payment. Simply send a check or money order to:
EnerStar Electric Cooperative11597 IL Highway 1Paris, IL 61944
Just a friendly reminder – don’t send cash through the mail! I learned that lesson the hard way once when I was younger (not with my electric bill, but still).
Which EnerStar Bill Pay Method Is Right For You?
Let’s be honest – we all have different preferences when it comes to handling our bills. Here’s my quick take on who might prefer each method:
| Payment Method | Best For |
|---|---|
| Online/SmartHub | Tech-savvy folks who want convenience |
| AutoPay | Anyone who wants to “set it and forget it” |
| Phone Payment | Those who prefer speaking to a system |
| Remote Locations | Cash-preferred customers or those running errands |
| In-Person | Members who have questions or like personal interaction |
| Night Drop | Busy people who can’t make it during business hours |
| Traditional folks who prefer writing checks |
Tips for Smooth EnerStar Bill Payments
Over the years, I’ve picked up some useful tips that make managing my EnerStar payments easier:
- Mark your calendar: Bills are typically due on the 24th of each month
- Set reminders: If not using AutoPay, set a reminder 3-5 days before the due date
- Keep account number handy: You’ll need this for most payment methods
- Consider paperless billing: Combined with SmartHub, this makes everything digital
- Check for payment confirmation: Always verify your payment went through
- Contact early if struggling: If you’re having trouble paying, contact Member Services at 1-800-635-4145 before the due date
What If You Need Payment Assistance?
We all go through tough times. If you’re struggling to pay your electric bill, EnerStar wants to help. They offer payment assistance options and may be able to set up special payment arrangements.
To explore these options:
- Email Member Services
- Call 1-800-635-4145

I had a neighbor who lost their job last winter, and EnerStar worked with them to create a payment plan that was manageable during that difficult time.
Reporting Power Outages
While we’re talking about EnerStar services, it’s worth mentioning how to report power outages:
- Call 1-800-635-4145
- Log into SmartHub
During major storms, knowing how to quickly report outages can make a big difference in restoration times.
My Personal Experience with EnerStar Bill Pay
When I first became an EnerStar member, I used to mail my payments. Then I switched to paying at the office, which worked well for years. But once I discovered SmartHub and AutoPay, everything changed! Now my bill gets paid automatically every month, and I can easily track my usage through the app.
What I appreciate most is having choices. On the rare occasion when I need to change my payment method for whatever reason, I have multiple alternatives.
