Services Covered in Your Bill
Your monthly Deforest Utilities bill typically includes

- Sewage services
- Electricity (in some areas)
- Waste management
- Storm water fees
Payment Options for Deforest Utilities
Thankfully, Deforest Utilities offers several convenient ways to pay your bill Let me walk you through each option
1. Online Payment Portal
The most convenient method is using the online payment portal through Payment Service Network (PSN). You can access it at https://www.paymentservicenetwork.com/Login.aspx?acc=RT19710.
Benefits of using the online portal:
- 24/7 access
- Immediate payment confirmation
- Ability to view payment history
- Option to set up recurring payments
- Email receipts
To use the online portal:
- Visit the PSN website
- Enter your account number (found on your bill)
- Create a user account if you’re a first-time user
- Select your payment method (credit/debit card or bank account)
- Complete the transaction

The traditional way still works! Mail your check or money order to:
Village of DeForest Utilities306 DeForest StreetDeForest, WI 53532
Important tips for mail-in payments:
- Always include your account number on your check
- Allow 5-7 business days for processing
- Don’t send cash through the mail
- Consider mailing your payment 7-10 days before the due date
5. Automatic Bank Draft
This is my personal favorite way to pay – it’s totally hands-off! With automatic bank draft:
- Your payment is automatically withdrawn from your checking account
- You never have to worry about late fees
- You still receive a bill showing the amount that will be withdrawn
- Changes to your bill are reflected in the automatic withdrawal amount
To set up automatic payments, you’ll need to complete an authorization form available at the Deforest Utilities office or on their website.
Payment Deadlines and Late Fees
Nobody likes late fees! Here’s what you need to know:
- Bills are typically sent out on the 1st of each month
- Payment is due by the 20th of each month
- A 1.5% late fee is applied to unpaid balances after the due date
- If your bill remains unpaid for more than 30 days, you may risk service disconnection
Understanding Your Bill
Deforest Utilities bills can sometimes be confusing with all their different line items and charges. Here’s a quick breakdown:
| Section | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Base Charge | Fixed monthly fee for service connection |
| Usage Charge | Variable fee based on your consumption |
| Municipal Fee | Charge for local government services |
| Previous Balance | Any amount carried over from last month |
| Adjustments | Credits or additional charges |
| Total Due | The full amount you need to pay |
Saving Money on Your Utility Bills
We could all use a little extra money in our pockets! Here are some tips to reduce your utility costs:
- Fix leaky faucets – Even small drips can waste gallons of water daily
- Install low-flow fixtures – Reduce water usage without sacrificing performance
- Use energy-efficient appliances – Look for the ENERGY STAR label
- Adjust your thermostat – Even 1-2 degrees can make a big difference
- Unplug unused electronics – Many devices draw power even when “off”
What to Do If You Can’t Pay Your Bill
Life happens, and sometimes it’s hard to make ends meet. If you’re struggling to pay your utility bill:
- Contact Deforest Utilities immediately – Don’t wait until your service is at risk
- Ask about payment arrangements – They may allow you to spread payments over time
- Inquire about assistance programs – There are local and state programs that can help
- Check with community organizations – Churches and nonprofits sometimes offer utility assistance

Like any service, there are occasional complaints about delays or customer service issues. However, the company is typically responsive to customer concerns and works to resolve problems quickly.

Final Thoughts

Water meters are read monthly. Customers are charged for all gallons used which is calculated by taking the current reading minus the previous reading. This charge is intended to cover pumping, treating and transmission of water.
Public Fire Protection Charge Based on Meter Size
The DeForest Water Utilities infrastructure was designed in part to provide fire protection to the residents and businesses of the Village of DeForest. The infrastructure (wells, water towers, pumps, hydrants and mains) was designed to be of sufficient capacity to provide the pressure and volume required to adequately suppress a fire. This capacity is in excess of what is needed to adequately provide a water supply to water utility customers for purposes other than fire protection. The cost of the “excess capacity,” as described above, is being recovered through a public fire protection charge on each quarterly utility bill. These funds do not go to the Fire Department.
