Hey there folks! I’m thrilled to share with you today the complete rundown on paying your Scott County Telephone Cooperative (SCTC) bill. As a local service that many of us rely on SCTC has made some important changes to their payment system recently, and I want to make sure you’re up to speed. Let’s dive into everything you need to know about managing your SCTC bill payments!

Recent Changes to SCTC’s Payment Process (Effective July 2025)

First things first – if you haven’t heard already SCTC has made some significant updates to their one-time payment process. As of July 14 2025, they’ve changed what information you need to make a payment. This change affects payments made

  • Over the phone (including automated systems)
  • With a customer service representative
  • In-person at their office
  • Through online one-time payments

The big change is that you no longer need your Account Number and ZIP Code. Instead, you’ll now need your Account Number and Security Code from your billing statement.

Important note: If you have a registered online account or use autopay, these changes don’t affect you! Your payment process remains the same.

Where to Find Your Security Code

Not sure where to locate your Security Code? Don’t worry – I’ve got you covered! The Security Code is located on the bottom right corner of the first page of your monthly bill. If it’s not explicitly labeled as “Security Code,” just look for the number located under the Due Date.

SCTC Bill Payment Options: Choose What Works for You!

SCTC offers several convenient ways to pay your bill. Let’s explore each option:

1. Pay Online (Available 24/7)

This is probably the easiest method for most of us. You can pay anytime through their online payment portal using either a credit card or checking account.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Debit or credit card payments are only accepted for balances under $500.00
  • First-time users will need their Account Number from their bill
  • The portal you use depends on your Account Number

For accounts starting with 0464:
Use the SCTC PAYMENT PORTAL

For accounts starting with 0474:
Use the PVEC FIBER PAYMENT PORTAL

2. Pay by Phone

I personally find this super convenient when I’m on the go! SCTC offers an interactive phone payment system that’s free for all customers

For SCTC Bills (Account Numbers starting with 0464):
Call 1-833-735-2241 and follow the prompts

For PVEC Fiber Bills (Account Numbers starting with 0474):
Call 1-833-735-2242 and follow the prompts

Pro tip: Have your Account Number and Security Code ready when you call. And remember – you don’t need to enter the first leading 0 (zero) of your account number when paying online or by phone!

3. Set Up Automatic Payments

If you’re like me and occasionally forget due dates, automatic payments are a lifesaver! There are two easy ways to set this up:

  1. Call SCTC’s business office at 276-452-9119 or 877-511-0808
  2. Sign up through their online payment portal

You can make automatic payments using either a credit card or checking account. If you choose checking/ACH payments, you’ll need to submit a signed voided check.

4. Pay by Mail

Sometimes the old-fashioned way works best! You can mail your payment to:

Scott County Telephone Cooperative
PO Box 487
Gate City, VA, 24251

5. Pay at the Office

If you prefer face-to-face transactions or happen to be in the area, you can stop by their office:

149 Woodland St.
Gate City, VA, 24251

They even have an after-hours payment depository beside the drive-up window for your convenience!

Common Questions About SCTC Bill Payments

What information do I need to pay my bill?

Since July 14, 2025, you need your Account Number and Security Code from your bill. The Security Code is located on the bottom right corner of the first page of your bill.

Can I pay with a credit card?

Yes! SCTC accepts credit card payments both online and through their phone system. However, there’s a $500 limit for credit/debit card transactions.

Do I enter my full account number when paying online?

No – when entering your account number online or by phone, you should skip the first leading zero. For example, if your account number is 0464XXXXX, you would enter 464XXXXX.

What if I forgot my Security Code?

If you can’t find your Security Code, I recommend:

  1. Checking your most recent bill (bottom right corner of the first page)
  2. Looking for a number under the Due Date
  3. Contacting SCTC customer service at 276-452-9119 if you still can’t locate it

Beyond Bill Payments: Other SCTC Services

While we’re talking about SCTC, it’s worth mentioning the range of services they provide. SCTC isn’t just about telephone services – they offer:

  • Residential Services
  • Business Services
  • Broadband Internet
  • Home Security
  • Whole Home DVR
  • SFN TV Now
  • Medical alert systems

If you’re interested in exploring any of these services, you can visit their website at www.sctc.org for more information.

Tips for Hassle-Free SCTC Bill Payments

After years of paying my SCTC bills, I’ve picked up a few tricks that might help you:

  1. Set calendar reminders for bill due dates if you’re not using autopay
  2. Keep a record of your Account Number and Security Code somewhere secure
  3. Double-check your account number when making payments (remembering to omit that first zero!)
  4. Consider setting up autopay to avoid late fees and the hassle of remembering to pay
  5. Review your bill each month to catch any unexpected charges or services

What To Do If You’re Having Trouble Paying Your Bill

We all face financial challenges sometimes. If you’re struggling to pay your SCTC bill:

  1. Contact their customer service at 276-452-9119 before your due date
  2. Ask about payment arrangements or extensions
  3. Inquire about any assistance programs that might be available

My Personal Experience with SCTC Payments

I’ve been an SCTC customer for several years now, and I’ve tried pretty much all their payment methods. Personally, I find their online portal the most convenient – I can pay at any time, and it only takes a few minutes. When I first set up my account, I did have a little confusion about the account number format (that pesky leading zero!), but their customer service was helpful in sorting it out.

The recent switch to requiring the Security Code instead of ZIP code threw me off at first, but I understand why they’ve made this change – it’s definitely more secure than just using a ZIP code anyone could know.

Final Thoughts on Managing Your SCTC Bill

Scott County Telephone Cooperative has really worked to make bill payment flexible and convenient for their customers. Whether you prefer digital methods like online portals and phone payments, or traditional options like mail and in-person payments, they’ve got you covered.

Remember that the key changes for 2025 involve using your Security Code instead of ZIP code for verification. This applies to one-time payments, but registered online accounts and autopay setups remain unchanged.

Stay connected, friends!
