How to Pay Your Broward County Water Bill: Ultimate Guide 2025

Post date |

The Utility Billing Payment System will be shut down for maintenance beginning on Monday June 30th, 2025 at 4:00pm. We’ll be back online the next day, Tuesday morning July 1st, 2025 at 07:00am. During this period, payments will not be accepted via the web or by phone, but you will still have access to your online utility account. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

There are several options for paying your utility bill. You may pay your bill in person at City Hall, 2600 Hollywood Boulevard, at the Cashiers Office, Room 103, or by using our Drive-Thru window on the north side of building. The Cashiers Office and Drive-Thru hours are Monday through Thursday from 7:00am – 6:00pm. Customers may also pay by using the “After Hours” drop box which is located next to the Drive-Thru window. You can also pay online or by phone, see more details under “payment options.”

Understanding Your Broward County Water Bill

Before we talk about payment methods, let’s quickly break down what you’re actually paying for

  • Water consumption charges: Based on your actual usage
  • Wastewater services: Sewage processing and disposal
  • Stormwater fees: For drainage system maintenance
  • Environmental fees: For conservation and protection measures
  • Base fees: Standard monthly service charges regardless of usage

Knowing these components helps you understand why your bill might fluctuate month to month. Now, let’s get to the main part – how to actually pay this thing!

Online Payment Portal – The Digital Convenience

The Broward County Water Services online payment system is probably the easiest way to handle your bill. I’ve been using it for years and it saves so much time.

How to Pay Online

  1. Visit the Broward County Water Services website at www.broward.org/WaterServices
  2. Click on “Pay My Bill” or navigate to the Customer Service section
  3. You’ll need your:
    • Account number (found on your bill)
    • Property address
    • Valid email address
  4. Create an account if you’re a first-time user
  5. Follow the prompts to complete your payment using credit card, debit card, or electronic check

Pro Tip When I first started using the online system, I had issues with my browser caching old information If you experience any glitches, try clearing your browser cache or using a different browser The website uses no-cache meta tags, but sometimes browsers can still cause problems.

Benefits of Online Payment

  • 24/7 availability – Pay at 3 AM in your pajamas if you want!
  • Instant confirmation – Get email receipts immediately
  • View payment history – Track previous payments
  • Paperless billing option – Save some trees and reduce clutter

Phone Payment Option – The Old Reliable

Not everyone’s comfortable with online systems, and that’s totally fine! Broward County offers a convenient phone payment system.

How to Pay By Phone

  1. Call the Broward County Water Services customer service line at 954-831-3250
  2. Have your account number and payment method ready
  3. Follow the automated prompts or speak with a representative
  4. You can use credit cards, debit cards, or set up electronic check payments

The phone system is especially helpful when you’re on the go or if the website is having technical issues (which happens sometimes, let’s be real).

Mail-In Payments – The Traditional Approach

For those who prefer the traditional route, mailing in your payment is still a perfectly valid option.

How to Mail Your Payment

  1. Make your check or money order payable to “Broward County Water and Wastewater Services”
  2. Write your account number on the check/money order
  3. Include the payment stub from your bill
  4. Mail to:
Broward County Water and Wastewater ServicesP.O. Box 121136Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312-1136

Important Warning: Allow at least 5-7 business days for mail processing. I learned this lesson the hard way with a late fee once. Now I always mail my payment at least a week before the due date!

In-Person Payment Options – For the Face-to-Face Folks

Sometimes you just want to handle things in person, especially if you’re paying with cash or have questions about your bill.

Where to Pay In Person

Broward County Water and Wastewater Services offers several customer service locations:

  • Main Office: 2555 West Copans Road, Pompano Beach
  • South Regional Office: 3701 North State Road 7, Lauderdale Lakes
  • North Regional Office: 1801 SW 40th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale

Hours of operation: Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM (excluding holidays)

When I had a dispute about my water usage last summer, I found visiting in person was the best way to get it resolved. The staff was surprisingly helpful and we figured out I had a small leak!

AutoPay – The “Set It and Forget It” Option

If you’re like me and sometimes forget due dates, AutoPay might be your best friend.

Setting Up Automatic Payments

  1. Visit the Broward County Water Services website
  2. Log in to your online account (or create one)
  3. Navigate to “Payment Options” or “AutoPay”
  4. Provide your bank account or credit card information
  5. Select the date you want payments processed
  6. Confirm and activate

With AutoPay, your bill will be automatically deducted from your selected payment method each month. No more late fees from forgetting to pay!

Understanding Payment Due Dates and Late Fees

It’s important to know when your payment is due and what happens if you’re late.

  • Billing cycle: Typically monthly, but may vary based on your service area
  • Grace period: Usually 21 days from the bill date
  • Late fee: Approximately 1.5% of the outstanding balance (minimum $5)
  • Disconnection warning: After 30 days past due
  • Service disconnection: Possible after 60 days past due

I’ve found that setting a calendar reminder 5 days before the due date works great as a backup, even with AutoPay enabled.

Special Payment Arrangements and Assistance Programs

Life happens, and sometimes paying bills on time can be challenging. Broward County offers several assistance options:

Payment Extensions

If you need a little extra time, you can request a payment extension:

  • Call customer service at 954-831-3250
  • Explain your situation
  • Extensions typically range from 7-14 additional days

Payment Plans

For larger outstanding balances:

  • Contact customer service to discuss your situation
  • Arrangements can be made to pay the balance over several months
  • Must be approved before your service is disconnected

Low-Income Assistance Programs

Broward County partners with several community organizations to provide assistance to qualifying low-income residents:

  • LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program)
  • Family Success Centers
  • Emergency Rental Assistance Program (may include utility assistance)

My neighbor went through a tough time last year and was able to get help through one of these programs. Don’t hesitate to ask about them if you’re struggling!

Troubleshooting Common Payment Issues

Sometimes things don’t go as planned. Here are solutions to common payment problems:

Website Technical Problems

If you’re having trouble with the online payment system:

  • Clear your browser cache and cookies
  • Try a different browser or device
  • Use private/incognito browsing mode
  • Call customer service if problems persist

Payment Not Showing Up

If your payment isn’t reflecting on your account:

  • Allow 2-3 business days for processing
  • Keep your confirmation number or receipt
  • Contact customer service with your confirmation details

Disputing Charges

If you believe your bill is incorrect:

  • Compare with previous months for unusual spikes
  • Check for leaks or running toilets (common culprits!)
  • Contact customer service with specific concerns
  • Request a meter reading verification if necessary

Moving? How to Handle Your Final Water Bill

When relocating within or out of Broward County, you’ll need to:

  1. Contact Broward County Water Services at least 3 business days before your move
  2. Provide your:
    • Account number

    • Moving date

  4. Pay any remaining balance

I moved last year and forgot to do this ahead of time – ended up paying for the new tenant’s first week of water! Learn from my mistake, folks.
