Hey there, fellow Gwinnett County residents! If you’re like me, managing those monthly utility bills can sometimes be a headache. Today I’m gonna walk you through everything you need to know about paying your Gwinnett County water bill. I’ve gathered all the important info in one place to make your life easier!
Understanding Your Gwinnett County Water Service
Before we dive into payment options, let’s get to know the service provider a bit better. The Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources provides water from Lake Sidney Lanier to most of the county’s 795,657 residents. As the second-most populous county in Georgia, Gwinnett County needs a reliable water system, and thankfully, they’ve got one!
One impressive thing I’ve discovered is that Gwinnett County Water has received an A- rating from WaterZen for their lead levels, which is the best-possible grade. This means the amounts of contaminants found in our water supply are better than the Public Health Goal and most other water providers analyzed. That’s definitely reassuring to know!

Consider water conservation: Installing low-flow fixtures can reduce your usage and lower your bills.
-
Review your bill carefully: Mistakes happen, so take a few minutes to verify that your bill seems accurate.
-
Keep your contact info updated: Make sure Gwinnett County Water Resources has your current email and phone number so they can reach you if there’s an issue.

About the Department of Water Resources
Water in Gwinnett County officially moved into the modern era when Congress authorized the construction of Buford Dam on the Chattahoochee River in 1950 to provide hydroelectric power, flood control, water supply, and recreational facilities for the region. Lake Lanier—the main water source for Gwinnett County—was created by the completion of Buford Dam which began filling in 1956. The County established the water system in 1958 and the sewer system about 10 years later.
The County constructed many of its major water and sewer main lines in the 1970s, which proved to be an essential step in preparing for the next decade. From 1986 through 1988, Gwinnett ranked as the fastest growing county in the U.S. among counties with a population greater than 100,000. Today, the county is home to almost a million residents with continued growth on the horizon.
The Department of Water Resources (DWR) manages and maintains the publicly owned water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure for our rapidly growing population and provides clean water for Gwinnett County at an excellent value. Learn more about what DWR does.
While the Department of Water Resources tests the County’s water quality frequently, the County does not send employees to test tap water inside customers’ homes.
If anyone claiming to be a Gwinnett County employee asks to take water samples from inside your home, do not let them in. As always, if you feel unsafe or if someone is trying to break into your home, call 911.
Residents may call Water Resources’ 24-hour dispatch at 678.376.7000 with questions or concerns.
