Should your balance fall below into the negative, you may be subject to immediate disconnection. Simply recharge your account by making a payment to MES. Once you meet the minimum reconnection balance of $25.00 and the $10.00 disconnection fee, your electric meter will be reconnected.
Any account older than 10 days will be reconciled at the end of the month. These reconciliations may not be seen by the customer until the beginning of the following month. MyUsage is a third party vendor that communicates with MESâs billing and metering systems to create its usage statements, there may be variations due to rate structures and/or communications delays. As a result, any discrepancies between the MyUsage portal and MESâs billing systems will be corrected in reconciliations.
Have you ever been hit with a late fee because you forgot to pay your Murray electric bill? Or maybe you’re tired of the monthly hassle of writing checks and finding stamps? I’ve been there too! After living in Murray for several years, I’ve tried pretty much every bill payment method available, and I’m excited to share what I’ve learned to make your life easier.
Understanding Your Murray Electric System Bill
Before diving into payment options it’s important to know which Murray utility provider you’re dealing with. There are actually two different “Murray” utilities depending on your location
- Murray Electric System (MES) – Serving Murray, Kentucky
- Murray City Utilities – Serving Murray, Utah
This distinction is super important because they have different payment systems and options!

The website is pretty straightforward, but I did have trouble finding the login button my first time. It’s right there on the homepage though!
Pre-Pay Services
MES also offers a Pre-Pay option which I personally love! With Pre-Pay:
- No deposits required

I switched to Pre-Pay last year and it’s helped me budget better since I can see exactly how much electricity I’m using in real-time.

Tips for Managing Your Murray Electric Bill
After years of managing my own utility bills, I’ve picked up some tricks that might help you too:
Set Up Auto-Pay
Both Murray Electric System and Murray City Utilities offer automatic payment options. This has been a lifesaver for me! No more forgetting due dates or scrambling to make payments at the last minute.
Consider Budget Billing
If you hate the seasonal spikes in your electric bill (those summer AC costs can be brutal!), ask about budget billing options. This spreads your costs evenly throughout the year.
Track Usage Patterns
Both utility providers offer ways to monitor your usage. I was shocked when I realized how much electricity my old refrigerator was using! Replacing it saved me about $15/month.
Check for Assistance Programs
If you’re struggling with utility costs, Murray Electric System (Kentucky) participates in assistance programs like:
- LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program)
- Home Uplift Program – Provides an average of $10,000 in free home energy upgrades to eligible customers
Watch Out for Sales Tax (Kentucky)
Starting January 1, 2023, Kentucky Department of Revenue implemented new sales tax rules. Only your primary residence (“domicile”) is exempt from sales tax on utility services. This caught me by surprise on my rental property bill!
Common Problems and Solutions
“I forgot my online account password!”
Both utilities have password reset options on their login pages. For Murray Electric System (Kentucky), you can also call 270-753-5312 for assistance.
“My bill seems higher than normal!”
First, compare your usage to the same month last year (it’s usually listed on your bill). If there’s a significant increase:
- Check for running appliances
- Look for thermostat settings that might have changed
- Consider having an energy audit done
- Call customer service to discuss the issue
“I need more time to pay my bill”
Don’t just ignore the due date! Call your utility provider:
- Murray Electric System (KY): 270-753-5312
- Murray City Utilities (UT): (801) 264-2626
They may be able to arrange a payment plan or extension, especially if you have a good payment history.
My Personal Experience with Murray Electric
I’ve been a Murray Electric customer for over 5 years now, and I’ve tried pretty much every payment method they offer. The online payment system had some glitches when I first started using it, but they’ve made lots of improvements lately.
Pre-Pay has been my favorite option because I can add money whenever I have extra cash, rather than getting hit with one big bill each month. Plus, the usage monitoring helps me see which appliances are energy hogs (looking at you, space heater!).
Final Thoughts
Paying your Murray electric bill doesn’t have to be a monthly headache. Both Murray Electric System (Kentucky) and Murray City Utilities (Utah) offer multiple convenient payment options to fit your preferences.
I personally recommend setting up auto-pay or trying the Pre-Pay option if it’s available to you. These have made my life so much simpler!
Remember, if you ever have questions about your bill or payment options, don’t hesitate to contact customer service. They’re usually very helpful and can often find ways to help you manage your payments more effectively.
Have you tried any of these payment methods? Which one works best for you? I’d love to hear about your experiences in the comments below!

The POWER to Reach Everyone’s Needs
Pre-pay is a perfect solution for anyone that wants to take control and be involved in how they use their electric. Pre-pay puts the responsibility into the customers hands and lets them be the driver of their account. Its a solution for all types of customers. Budget minded customers who like to keep track of how their dollars are spent with daily or weekly budget goals. Customers who are energy savings minded and want to control how much they consume each day. Customers who like feedback. Customers who want to prevent a barrier with a deposit fee. Customers who are paying for college or student utility bills. Customers who prefer flexibility with their payments and prefer to not have barriers on when they have to pay. Not matter the reason, pre-pay provides a solution that reaches many customers.
The POWER to Change Everything and Put the POWER in the Customers Hands
Pre-pay gives customers what they want – an opportunity for daily visibility and control over their utility power and consumption. Customers can now see the effect of their electric usage in real time and not once a month when traditional billing comes. Eliminating surprises and allowing the customer to set thresholds and budget their hard earned dollars. Just as you would with the gas in your gas tank, a pre-paid electric account, gives you the options to control when and how much you want to refill your account. Customers dont always realize how much electric they consume on a daily basis and having the ability to keep tabs on what they do each day, allows them to make adjustments before itâs too late and the bill becomes too much to handle.
