Are you tired of stressing about making your AmeriHealth payment on time? We’ve all been there! Remembering to pay your health insurance bill can sometimes slip through the cracks of our busy lives. But don’t worry – AmeriHealth offers several convenient methods to pay your bill and I’m gonna walk you through all of them in this article.
As a longtime AmeriHealth member myself, I’ve tried pretty much every payment method they offer. Some are definitely easier than others depending on your situation! Let’s dive into the different ways you can pay your AmeriHealth bill so you can choose the method that works best for your lifestyle.
The 6 Ways to Pay Your AmeriHealth Bill
AmeriHealth gives members multiple options for paying their health insurance premiums
- AmeriHealth mobile app
- eBill online payment system
- Credit or debit card by phone
- Personal check or money order
- Automatic withdrawals through your bank
- Telephone payment system
Let’s explore each method in detail so you can decide which one fits your needs best.
1. Paying Through the AmeriHealth Mobile App
The AmeriHealth mobile app is probably the most convenient way to pay your bill if you’re always on the go like me. I personally use this method most months because it’s so quick!
How to pay using the mobile app:
- Download the free AmeriHealth mobile app from the App Store or Google Play
- Make sure you have the latest version of “AHNJ On the Go” app
- Select “Manage Account” in the app
- Then tap “Pay My Bill”
- Enter your bank account or prepaid debit card info
- Submit your payment
The great thing about the app is that you can view your amount due and pay it anytime, anywhere. This is super helpful when you’re traveling or just don’t want to deal with paper bills.
2. Using eBill for Online Payments
eBill is AmeriHealth’s online payment system, and it’s really handy if you prefer managing your bills on a computer rather than your phone. I switched to this method during months when I was tracking my expenses more closely and wanted the bigger screen.
To make a one-time payment through eBill:
- Log in at https://www.amerihealth.com/login
- Select “Manage Account” in the left-hand corner
- Have your bank account number and routing number ready
- Follow the prompts to complete your payment
Setting up recurring payments:
- Complete a one-time payment first (you can’t set up recurring payments when a new invoice is available)
- Select “Add Recurring Payment” in the upper right corner
- Complete the required fields
- Select “Set Recurring”
One thing I really like about eBill is that you can schedule payments up to 10 days before the due date, and you can set up notifications so you never miss a payment. The system will tell you when a bill is due, when your payment amount changes, and when money is withdrawn from your account.
Important: You must pay your bill by the due date or you won’t be able to use eBill. If your bill is past-due, you’ll need to use one of the other payment methods.
3. Paying by Credit or Debit Card
For your initial premium payment, AmeriHealth accepts American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa for both prepaid debit and credit card payments. This was how I paid my very first bill when I signed up with them.
To pay with a credit or debit card:
- Pay by bill: Call the automated system at 1-800-313-9168 (TTY: 711)
- eBill: Log in at https://www.amerihealth.com/login and select “Manage Account”
It’s worth noting that for ongoing payments, AmeriHealth only accepts ACH, debit, and prepaid cards – not regular credit cards after your initial payment. This was a little annoying for me since I like to collect points on my credit card, but I adjusted quickly.
4. Using Personal Check or Money Order
If you prefer traditional payment methods, you can always pay with a personal check or money order. My parents still use this method because they like having the paper trail.
When paying by check or money order:
- Write the amount you’re enclosing on the payment slip
- Return the slip with your payment
- Make sure the address shows through the return envelope window
- If you lose the envelope, mail the payment to the address on your payment slip
Your bill includes a detachable payment slip with your billing account number and payment address, so it’s pretty straightforward. Just remember this method takes longer due to mail delivery times, so plan accordingly!
5. Setting Up Automatic Payments Through Your Bank
Another convenient option is to set up automatic payments through your bank’s online bill pay service. I used this method for a while when I was trying to automate all my monthly expenses.
To set up automatic payments through your bank:
- Use your bank’s online bill pay service
- Set up AmeriHealth as a new biller
- Use the billing account number printed on your bill payment slip (not your member ID)
- Enter the payment address printed at the bottom of your bill
Important note: If you change plans, you must delete the current biller and set up a new one with the new account number and payment address printed on your bill. This caught me off guard when I switched from an HMO to a PPO plan last year!
6. Paying by Telephone
Finally, you can always pay your bill by phone using AmeriHealth’s automated system. This is handy when you’re in a hurry or if your internet is down.
To pay by phone:
- Call 1-800-313-9168 (TTY: 711)
- Have your member ID number ready (from your card)
- Know your billing account number (from your bill)
- Have your bank account and routing numbers OR your prepaid debit/credit card number
The phone system accepts ACH payments, as well as American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa prepaid debit and credit cards for initial premium payments. For ongoing payments, they accept ACH, debit, and prepaid cards only.
What You Need to Know About Your AmeriHealth Bill
Before you pay your bill, it’s helpful to understand a few key things:
Billing Account Number vs. Member ID
Your billing account number is different from your member ID number. The billing account number is printed on your bill payment slip, while your member ID is on your insurance card. You’ll need both for certain payment methods.
Payment Timing
You can view and pay your bill up to 15 days before your coverage effective date. For recurring payments, you can schedule them up to 10 days before the due date.
What If My Bill Is Past Due?
If your bill becomes past due, you won’t be able to pay through eBill. You’ll need to use one of the other payment methods to bring your account current.
Common Questions About AmeriHealth Bill Pay
Can I pay my AmeriHealth bill with a credit card?
Yes, but only for your initial premium payment. For ongoing payments, AmeriHealth accepts ACH, debit cards, and prepaid cards only.
What if I change my health plan?
If you change products (from HMO to PPO or vice versa), you must set up a new recurring payment. If you use your bank’s bill pay service, you’ll need to delete the current biller and set up a new one.
Can I pay dental and vision coverage with my medical bill?
Yes, you can pay your bill by telephone if you’re enrolled in medical, adult dental, or adult vision coverage.
Is there a fee for any payment method?
AmeriHealth doesn’t charge fees for any of the payment methods they offer, which is a nice bonus!
My Personal Experience with AmeriHealth Bill Pay
I’ve been with AmeriHealth for about 3 years now, and I’ve tried pretty much all their payment methods. When I first signed up, I used the credit card option for my initial payment, then switched to the mobile app for most months since.
During a period when I was really budgeting carefully, I switched to eBill so I could see everything more clearly on my computer screen and set exact payment dates.
The only time I had an issue was when I forgot to update my payment info after changing plans – my automatic payment didn’t go through, and I had to scramble to pay by phone. Learn from my mistake and remember to update your payment details if you change plans!
Final Thoughts
Paying your AmeriHealth bill doesn’t have to be complicated. With six different payment methods available, you can choose the one that best fits your lifestyle and preferences. Whether you’re tech-savvy and prefer the mobile app or eBill, or you’re more comfortable with traditional methods like checks or phone payments, AmeriHealth has you covered.
The most important thing is to pay your bill on time to ensure your health coverage continues without interruption. Set up reminders or recurring payments if you tend to forget, and always keep your payment information updated if you change plans.
