How to Pay Your Alvarado Water Bill: Every Payment Option You Need!

Post date |

Are you tired of scrambling at the last minute to pay your Alvarado water bill? I’ve been there too! After moving to Alvarado last year, I struggled to figure out all the payment options for my monthly water service. After several late fees (ouch!), I finally got the hang of it and wanted to share everything I’ve learned about paying your water bill in Alvarado, Texas.

Understanding Your Alvarado Water Bill

Before diving into payment methods let’s understand what you’re actually paying for. The City of Alvarado Utilities Department handles billing for water sewer, and garbage services. Your bill includes

  • Base water rate
  • Usage charges (based on gallons used)
  • Sewer services
  • Garbage/recycling collection
  • Prairieland Groundwater District Fee ($0.20 per 1,000 gallons)

Current Residential Water Rates

The residential water rates in Alvarado are structured in tiers:

Usage Rate
Base Rate $41.06
0 to 8,000 gallons $5.82 per 1,000 gallons
8,001 to 10,000 gallons $7.19 per 1,000 gallons
10,001 to 20,000 gallons $8.56 per 1,000 gallons
Over 20,000 gallons $10.30 per 1,000 gallons

As you can see, the more water you use, the higher the rate per 1,000 gallons. This tiered structure encourages conservation – something we all need to think about in Texas!

When Is Your Alvarado Water Bill Due?

Bills are mailed out on the last day of every month and are due by the 15th of the following month. If the 15th falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment is due by 4 PM on the next business day.

Pro tip If you don’t receive your bill by the 5th of the month, call the Utility Billing Office at 817-790-3351 (option 1) It’s your responsibility to pay on time even if you don’t receive the bill!

Payment Options for Your Alvarado Water Bill

Now let’s get to the main point – how to actually pay your bill! The City of Alvarado offers several convenient payment options

1. Pay Online

The quickest and easiest method is paying online through the Municipal Online Payments portal at https://www.municipalonlinepayments.com/alvaradotx/utilities.

You have two options:

  • Quick Pay: No login required – just need your account number
  • Sign In/Register: Create an account to view details, manage multiple accounts, and set up e-billing

I personally prefer creating an account because it allows me to track my usage over time and easily access my payment history.

2. Pay in Person

You can pay at the Customer Service counter inside City Hall:

  • Location: 104 W College, Alvarado, TX 76009
  • Hours: Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM
  • Accepted payments: Cash, check, money order, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, or debit cards

3. Pay by Mail

Simply mail your payment (check or money order) with your payment coupon to:

Allow 5-7 business days for delivery to avoid late fees!

4. Drop Box

Don’t have time during business hours? No problem! There’s a 24-hour drop box located on the east side of City Hall, past the drive-in window. I’ve used this many times when I’ve been running late!

5. Pay by Phone

Call 866-285-9133 to make a payment over the phone. Have your account number handy.

6. Bank Draft

Set up automatic payments through bank draft by contacting Customer Service at 817-790-3351, option 1. This is my preferred method – I never worry about forgetting to pay now!

Bethany Special Utility District Customers

If your water service is provided by Bethany Special Utility District rather than the City of Alvarado, you have slightly different payment options:

  • Payment By Mail: Send to Bethany Special Utility District, 133 S CR 810, Alvarado, TX 76009
  • Automatic Bank Draft: Download the ACH Recurring Debit Form from their Forms & Reports section
  • In-Person Payment: Visit their office at 133 S CR 810
  • Online Banking: Set up through your financial institution’s bill pay service

Important Deadlines and Fees

Missing your payment deadline can be costly! Here’s what happens:

  • Due date: 15th of each month
  • Late fee: 10% added on the 16th
  • Service disconnection: 26th of the month for unpaid accounts
  • Reconnection fee: $75 (8 AM to 4 PM, Monday-Friday)

No one wants to pay these extra fees or deal with water service interruption!

Payment Extensions

Need more time to pay? You must complete an extension form and submit it to City Hall by 4 PM on the last working day before cut-offs. Remember, phone requests for extensions are not accepted.

You can:

  • Call 817-790-3351, option 1, to get a form by mail, fax, or email
  • Visit City Hall to complete the form in person

Extensions only give you until the 3rd of the next month, so plan accordingly!

Why Is My Water Bill So High?

This is a common question I get from neighbors! If you’re experiencing an unusually high bill, here are some potential causes:

  • Hidden water leaks, especially toilet leaks
  • Seasonal increases in water usage (summer lawn watering)
  • More people staying in your home
  • Filling a swimming pool
  • Running water to prevent pipes from freezing

The City of Alvarado does offer leak adjustment requests. If you’ve had a leak, you can submit a Leak Adjustment Request Form to potentially reduce your bill.

Water Conservation Tips

Since water rates increase with higher usage, conservation is not just good for the environment – it’s good for your wallet too! Some easy ways to reduce your water consumption:

  • Fix leaking faucets and toilets promptly
  • Install low-flow shower heads and toilets
  • Only run full loads in dishwashers and washing machines
  • Water your lawn during early morning or evening hours
  • Use a rain barrel to collect water for plants

Final Thoughts

Staying on top of your water bill payments doesn’t have to be stressful. With so many payment options available, you can choose what works best for your lifestyle and schedule.

I’ve found that setting up automatic bank drafts has been the most convenient option for me – no more worrying about due dates or late fees! But many of my friends prefer the online payment portal since they can review their usage each month before paying.

Remember that communication is key – if you’re having trouble paying your bill, reach out to the Utility Department before the due date to discuss your options. They’re generally very helpful and willing to work with residents.
