Are you tired of forgetting to pay your garbage bill in Baldwin County? I’ve been there! Last month, I almost missed my payment deadline and had to scramble to figure out the payment options. That’s why I’ve put together this comprehensive guide to help fellow Baldwin County residents navigate the sometimes confusing process of paying their solid waste bills.
Understanding Baldwin County’s Solid Waste Services
Before diving into payment options, let’s get clear on what we’re actually paying for. The Baldwin County Solid Waste Disposal Authority (BCSWDA) provides garbage collection services to residents in the unincorporated areas of Baldwin County, Alabama. And guess what? Participation isn’t optional – it’s mandatory! This requirement is part of the county’s efforts to reduce illegal dumping and littering.
I was surprised to learn that garbage collection maintains a normal schedule on most holidays, with only three exceptions:
- Thanksgiving
- Christmas
- New Year’s Day
Also, it’s worth noting that during COVID-19, all garbage must be placed inside your Baldwin County Cart for collection. They won’t pick up items left outside the cart – I learned this the hard way when I put out some extra bags!
Online Payment Options for Baldwin County Solid Waste Bills
The easiest way to pay your garbage bill is online. Here’s how:
Option 1: Baldwin County Solid Waste Disposal Authority Website
- Visit baldwincountyswda.org
- Click on “PAY YOUR GARBAGE/TRASH BILL” button
- Follow the prompts to complete your payment
They accept Visa, MasterCard, and Discover cards. Unfortunately, American Express isn’t accepted (I tried using mine last year and had to switch cards).
Option 2: Baldwin County Government Website
Another way to pay is through the Baldwin County government website:
- Go to baldwincountyal.gov/payments
- Navigate to the “Solid Waste” section
- Click on “Pay residential garbage bill”
- Follow the electronic payment instructions
The county website also offers help with registering for an online account, which is super useful if you’re setting this up for the first time.

Just moved to Baldwin County? Congrats on your new home! You’ll need to apply for garbage service. The BCSWDA website has an “APPLY FOR GARBAGE SERVICE” button that makes this process straightforward.
Remember, since participation is mandatory for residents in unincorporated areas, it’s best to set this up right away when you move in.
Understanding Your Bill
Baldwin County solid waste bills typically include charges for:
- Regular weekly garbage collection
- Access to county landfills
- Environmental programs
The current residential rate varies, so check your bill for the exact amount. It’s generally affordable compared to many other counties I’ve lived in.
Tips for Never Missing a Payment Again
We’re all busy, and sometimes bills slip through the cracks. Here are some tricks I’ve learned to stay on top of my garbage bill:
- Set up auto-pay if available – This has been a life-saver for me!
- Create calendar reminders – I set mine 5 days before the due date
- Keep contact information updated – So you receive bill notifications
- File/organize bills immediately – Don’t let them get lost in a pile of mail
- Consider quarterly or annual payments – Fewer payments means fewer chances to forget
What Happens If You Don’t Pay?
Let’s be honest – sometimes we forget or financial hardships happen. If you miss a payment:
- You’ll likely receive a late notice with additional fees
- Continued non-payment could result in service interruption
- In extreme cases, Baldwin County may place a lien against your property
If you’re experiencing financial difficulties, it’s best to contact the Solid Waste office directly. Sometimes they can work with you on payment arrangements rather than letting the bill go unpaid.
Landfill Information
Your solid waste bill also gives you access to Baldwin County landfills, including:
- Magnolia Landfill
- MacBride Landfill
- Eastfork Landfill
- Bay Minette Transfer Station
These facilities accept various types of waste beyond what’s collected in regular garbage pickup. Perfect for those big clean-up projects!
Recycling Options in Baldwin County
While Baldwin County doesn’t currently offer curbside recycling (a bummer, I know!), they do provide several container locations throughout the county where you can drop off recyclable items. This is part of their environmental stewardship program that your solid waste bill helps fund.
I’ve found that incorporating a weekly trip to the recycling containers into my routine has helped reduce my household waste significantly.
Customer Service and Support
If you have questions about your bill or service, Baldwin County offers several ways to get help:
- Phone: Call the numbers listed above
- Email: You can email Citizen Services through the county website
- In-Person: Visit the Solid Waste office during business hours
I’ve found their customer service team to be generally helpful, though wait times can be longer during peak periods (like right after bills go out).
