CEWSA Online Bill Pay: Your Complete Guide to Hassle-Free Water Bill Payments

Post date |

Are you tired of rushing to pay your Central Elmore Water & Sewer Authority bill before the cutoff time? I’ve been there too! After forgetting to pay my water bill twice last year (and dealing with those pesky late fees) I finally got smart about using CEWSA’s online bill pay system. Today I’m sharing everything you need to know about paying your CEWSA bill online – it’s seriously been a game-changer for my monthly routine!

What is CEWSA and Their Online Bill Pay System?

Central Elmore Water & Sewer Authority (CEWSA) provides water and sewer services to residents throughout Elmore County, Alabama. Their online bill payment system lets customers view and pay their bills electronically without needing to visit the office or mail a check.

The CEWSA online bill pay portal is hosted through Municipal Online Payments, making it easy to manage your water and sewer bills from anywhere with internet access. It’s one of several payment options offered by CEWSA to make billing more convenient for customers

Why Use CEWSA’s Online Bill Pay?

Before we dive into the how-to’s let’s talk about why you might want to use this service in the first place

  • Convenience: Pay your bill anytime, anywhere – even at 3 AM in your pajamas!
  • Time-saving: No driving to the office or looking for stamps
  • Record-keeping: Easy access to payment history and receipts
  • Reminders: Set up alerts so you never miss a payment
  • Environmental benefits: Less paper waste from checks and envelopes

We’ve been using the online system for about a year now, and honestly the biggest benefit is just peace of mind. No more wondering if my payment arrived in time or if I remembered to mail the check!

How to Register for CEWSA Online Bill Pay

Getting started with CEWSA’s online bill payment system is pretty straightforward. Here’s what you’ll need to do:

  1. Visit the CEWSA payment options page at https://cewsa.com/payment-options
  2. Look for the “Pay Your Bill Now” green button
  3. Click the blue “Register as a New User” button
  4. Follow the prompts to create your account

You’ll need your account number and the street number of your service address to complete registration. If you have trouble accessing your account through Municipal Online Bill Pay, try using a different browser like Chrome or Edge – this fixed my issues when I first tried to sign up!

The system now offers a “new identity service” that enhances security features, so you might see a message about this when you first log in. Just follow the prompts to proceed with sign-in or registration.

Making a One-Time Payment Through CEWSA Online

Once you’ve registered, making payments is super simple:

  1. Go to the CEWSA payment portal
  2. Sign in with your username and password
  3. Select “Utility Billing” from the available services
  4. Enter your payment amount
  5. Provide your payment information (Mastercard or Visa only)
  6. Confirm and submit your payment

Important note: CEWSA charges a $2.00 convenience fee per transaction when paying online. Small price to pay for convenience, in my opinion!

Also remember that all bills are due by 4:00 p.m. on the due date. Even though you’re paying online, the same deadlines apply, so don’t wait until 4:30 p.m. thinking you’re still good!

Setting Up Automatic Payments

If you’re like me and occasionally forget things, the auto-pay option might be your best friend. Here’s how to set it up:

Credit Card Auto Draft Online

  1. Log into your online account
  2. Look for the auto-pay or recurring payment option
  3. Enter your credit card information
  4. Select your preferred draft date

Pro tip: When setting up credit card auto draft, make sure you select a draft date after your Billing Cycle’s mail date but at least 2-3 days prior to your Billing Cycle’s due date. This gives enough processing time to avoid any late fees.

Bank Account Auto Draft

If you prefer having your payment come directly from your checking account:

  1. Download the ACH Recurring Debit Form from the Forms & Reports section of CEWSA’s website
  2. Fill out the form completely
  3. Include a voided check
  4. Drop off or mail the form to CEWSA’s office

There’s no setup fee for this service, which is a nice bonus! Just be aware that if you need to cancel or change your automatic bank draft, you must submit your request at least 48 hours before your account’s due date.

Other Payment Options Beyond Online Bill Pay

While online bill pay is super convenient, CEWSA offers several other ways to pay your bill:

Phone Payments (IVR Payment)

Call 1-866-261-7608 and follow the prompts to make a payment. You’ll need your account number and street address number. The system now offers Spanish language options too (¡El sistema automatizado IVR ahora ofrece la opcion en espanol!).

Mail Payments

You can still pay by check or money order through the mail. Send payments with your payment coupon to:

Central Elmore Water & Sewer Authority
P.O. Box 816
Wetumpka, AL 36092

To avoid late fees, mail your payment at least 5-7 business days before the due date.

Bank Online Bill Pay

Many banks offer their own online bill payment services through their websites. These payments may take up to seven business days to post to your CEWSA account, so plan accordingly! Check with your bank for any fees they might charge for this service.

Tips for Using CEWSA Online Bill Pay Successfully

After using this system for a while, I’ve picked up some helpful tips:

  • Mark your calendar: Even with auto-pay, it’s good to know when your bill is due
  • Check confirmation emails: Save these as proof of payment
  • Monitor your account: Log in periodically to verify payments went through
  • Update payment methods: If you get a new credit card, don’t forget to update your payment info
  • Keep contact info current: Make sure CEWSA has your current email and phone number for alerts

Troubleshooting Common Issues

“I can’t access my online account”

If you’re having trouble logging in:

  • Try a different web browser (Chrome or Edge work best)
  • Clear your browser cache and cookies
  • Double-check your username and password
  • Use the “forgot password” feature if needed

“My payment didn’t go through”

If your payment fails:

  • Verify your credit card information is correct
  • Make sure your card isn’t expired
  • Check that you’re using Mastercard or Visa (the only cards accepted)
  • Confirm you have sufficient funds available

“I’m being charged late fees even though I scheduled a payment”

Important note from CEWSA: “Scheduling a payment is not a payment arrangement. Late fees and disconnect fees still apply. Payments must be received by 4:00 pm on the due date to avoid a late fee.”

Make sure you’re scheduling your payment with enough processing time!

For those of us always on our phones, CEWSA offers mobile payment options as well. You can find more information about their mobile app in the “Mobile App Information” PDF available on their website. This makes it even easier to manage your account on the go.

Final Thoughts on CEWSA Online Bill Pay

We’ve been using CEWSA’s online bill pay system for over a year now, and it’s made managing our water bill so much simpler. No more last-minute trips to drop off payments or worrying about whether a check arrived in time through the mail.

The $2.00 convenience fee is a small price to pay for the peace of mind and time saved. Plus, having access to payment history and confirmation receipts has been helpful for our household budgeting.

Whether you choose one-time payments or set up auto-pay, the online system is definitely worth trying if you’re a CEWSA customer looking to simplify your monthly bills.

You can sign up for bank or credit card draft by logging onto your account at www.caec.coop. Select the Billing & Payments Tab and then find the Draft Payments option. You receive a bill as you normally would, and the amount is deducted from your bank account on the due date shown on your bill. Online

Click here to pay your bill online 24-hours a day with an E-Check or Debit/Credit card.

Mobile App Mobile and Devices

Keep track of your account, pay or view your bill and much more with the CAEC App for Android and Apple devices.

Text

When your cell phone number is linked to your account, you can text the code PAY to 352667 and select a valid CAEC account number associated with that cell number. Also, there’s a whole list of other features available for your account via text.

E-Bill

Go paperless with the convenience of E-Bill. Instead of receiving a paper statement, you’ll receive your bill by e-mail at the same time of the month as you presently receive your bill by mail. With E-Bill, you can immediately pay by clicking on the link included and pay online. Multiple accounts can be set up as long as all bills are emailed to the same address.

Enroll for E-Bill through our online account access at www.caec.coop. Select the Billing & Payments tab and then Bill Notification.

By Phone

CAEC gives you the option to pay by telephone anytime – even without the assistance of a Customer Service Representative. Easy-to-follow instructions guide you through the process. Simply have your CAEC member account number available as well as your credit/debit card information when you dial 1-800-545-5735 or locally at (334) 365-6762. Once the greeting message begins, you may press 2 for the Bill Payment option.

Prepay

CAEC members who are looking for another way to manage and pay for electricity usage have a unique option—prepay. Prepay is just what it sounds like. As a CAEC member, you can have the opportunity to pay for electricity prior to its consumption. The prepay program provides a great deal of flexibility. New members can have the option to sign up for Prepay instead of having to pay a deposit, while existing members can use Prepay to efficiently manage energy consumption. Prepay participants can make payments at any of CAEC’s service centers, by phone or through the Web.

Payments are automatically applied and notifications for daily and low balances can be sent a number of ways—phone call, text message or email—and you can check your prepay account balance 24/7 via the web. If you’re interested in CAEC’s prepay service or have further questions, call us at (800) 545-5735 or send us an e-mail.

CheckOut by PayGo Another convenient payment option is available at local retailers. CheckOut allows you to generate a barcode on your phone (or print it from your computer) and take the barcode to a participating retailer, such as Dollar General, Family Dollar and CVS, to scan it and make your cash payment.

Payments made through CheckOut post immediately to your CAEC account, making it a great option for PrePay members. Best of all, there are no additional fees for members using this method. The only requirement is the minimum cash payment amount must meet or exceed $5.

Getting started is easy! Visit http://caec.sedccheckout.com and enter your account number. You will need a separate barcode for each account if you have multiple CAEC accounts. Then select “Find Locations” to find the nearest participating retailer.

Levelized Billing

Want to make your electric bill fit your monthly budget? CAEC’s levelized billing program prevents drastic changes in your bill, even in the coldest or hottest months of the year. There are no surprises with levelized billing. A levelized bill is based on the average usage for 12 months so the levelized amount will change slightly each month. If CAEC has been providing electricity to your home for at least six months, you are eligible to participate in levelized billing.

You can sign up for levelized billing by logging on to our online account access and selecting the Service Tab and then Levelized Billing. Other options, such as bank draft or e-bill, can also be combined with levelized billing. For more information, call us at (800) 545-5735.
