Hey there, fellow Cherokee County residents! Are you tired of standing in long lines or rushing to mail your water bill before the due date? I’ve been there too, and it’s why I wanted to share everything I know about paying your Cherokee County Water and Sewerage Authority (CCWSA) bill. Trust me, this will make your life so much easier!

Who Provides Our Water Anyway?

Before diving into payment methods, let’s talk about who’s behind our water service. The Cherokee County Water and Sewerage Authority (CCWSA) provides high-quality water and sewer services to more than 225,000 residents in Cherokee County, Georgia. Our water comes from some beautiful sources – the historic Etowah River that starts in the mountains of Lumpkin County north of Dahlonega, and the Hollis Q. Lathem Reservoir created from Yellow Creek waters.

How to Pay Your CCWSA Bill: All Your Options

There’s nothing worse than getting hit with a late fee because you forgot to pay your water bill. CCWSA offers several convenient ways to pay, and I’m gonna walk you through all of them:

1. Online Bill Payment (Most Convenient!)

The easiest way to pay your CCWSA bill is through their online payment portal

The online system is available 24/7, so you can pay at 3 AM in your pajamas if you want! No judgment here.

2. Pay By Phone

Not comfortable with online payments? No worries! CCWSA has recently upgraded their phone system. You can now pay your bill by calling 770.479.1813 and following the automated prompts. Have your account number and payment method ready when you call.

3. Automatic Bank Draft Program

This is my personal favorite, and I’ve been using it for years now! The Automatic Bank Draft Program lets CCWSA automatically withdraw your payment each month. Benefits include

  • Never forget a payment
  • Save time (no monthly payment actions needed)
  • Save money (no stamps, no driving to an office)
  • Avoid late fees completely

To enroll, contact customer service or check the forms library on their website

4. In-Person Payment

If you prefer the old-school approach (sometimes I do!), you can visit their main office:

  • Address: 140 West Main Street, Canton, GA 30114
  • Phone: 770.479.1813

Understanding Your CCWSA Bill

Ever looked at your water bill and thought “what the heck am I looking at?” CCWSA actually provides a sample bill on their website to help customers understand all those numbers and codes. It’s super helpful for new residents or anyone confused about charges.

Here’s what you’ll typically see on your bill:

  • Account number
  • Due date
  • Previous balance
  • Current charges
  • Water usage metrics
  • Sewer charges (if applicable)
  • Any additional fees

Starting New Water Service

Just moved to Cherokee County? Congrats on your new place! Here’s what you need to know about starting service:

CCWSA requires a deposit to establish water service for any residence, business, or other location. If there’s already a meter at your location, you’ll pay a transfer fee when requesting service. No existing meter? You’ll need to purchase one through their customer service department.

Ending Your Water Service

Moving out of Cherokee County? I’ll miss ya! But here’s what to do about your water service:

Notify CCWSA at least one day before you want service disconnected. You can:

  • Use their Contact Us form on the website
  • Call customer service at 770-479-1813
  • Fax your request to 678-493-2434

Don’t forget to include your account number, service address, and date of disconnection.

Common Issues & Solutions

Cloudy Water

Have you ever turned on your tap to find cloudy water? Don’t panic! This often happens during fire hydrant maintenance. The quickest fix is to run cold water for a few minutes until it clears up. If it persists for more than a day, give customer service a call.

High Water Bill

Suddenly got a bill that’s way higher than normal? This could be due to:

  • Water leaks (check your toilets, they’re sneaky leakers!)
  • Seasonal usage changes (watering lawn, filling pools)
  • More people in the household
  • Rate adjustments

If you suspect a leak, turn off all water in your home and watch your meter. If it’s still moving, you probably have a leak somewhere.

Customer Service & Support

CCWSA prides itself on good customer service. If you have questions about your bill or service, contact them at:

  • Phone: 770.479.1813
  • Office: 140 West Main Street, Canton, GA 30114
  • Website: https://ccwsa.com/

Their FAQ page is also super helpful for common questions.

Educational Resources

Did you know CCWSA has a whole Education & Outreach program? They’re committed to providing water education so customers can make smart decisions for themselves and their community. They’ve even won the GAWP Education Program Of Excellence Award!

Proud Achievements of Our Water Authority

I’m personally pretty proud of our local water authority’s accomplishments. They’ve received some impressive recognition:

  • Etowah Water Treatment Facility has received top honors
  • Their wastewater facilities have also been recognized with top honors
  • They’ve earned the GAWP Education Program Of Excellence Award

Water Conservation Tips

As someone who’s lived thru a few Georgia droughts, I know how important water conservation is. Here are some ways we can all help:

  1. Fix leaky faucets and toilets promptly
  2. Install low-flow shower heads and toilets
  3. Only run full loads in dishwashers and washing machines
  4. Water lawns early morning or evening to reduce evaporation
  5. Use rain barrels to collect water for gardens

Additional Resources on the CCWSA Website

The CCWSA website is packed with useful info beyond just bill payment. You can find:

  • Frequently Asked Questions
  • Employment Opportunities
  • Info about Wastewater Treatment
  • Waste Hauler Permit details
  • Backflow Prevention Device Inspection Report
  • Forms Library
  • Public Notices
  • Budget & Audits information
  • Board meeting schedules
  • Maps of CCWSA service areas

Community Involvement

CCWSA isn’t just about providing water – they’re active in our community too! They maintain the Hollis Q. Lathem Reservoir, which offers fishing opportunities for families. What a great way to spend time outdoors together!

Consumer Confidence Reports

CCWSA regularly publishes Consumer Confidence Reports to keep customers informed about water quality. The 2024 Consumer Confidence Report and 2024 Salacoa Consumer Confidence Report are available on their website. These reports detail water testing results and confirm that our water meets or exceeds all federal and state requirements.

New to the Area? What Makes Cherokee County Water Special

If you’re new to Cherokee County, you might be wondering what makes our water special. Our water comes from the Etowah River and Yellow Creek – pristine North Georgia mountain streams that provide excellent water quality. The Hollis Q. Lathem Reservoir is another important source that helps ensure we have reliable water service year-round.
