For those who might be new to the area, GVTC is basically the communications lifeline of South Central Texas. They started way back in 1951 as a humble telephone cooperative serving rural areas that bigger companies just weren’t interested in. Talk about humble beginnings!
Today, GVTC has grown into the region’s largest communications company, covering over 3,000 square miles from San Antonio all the way into the gorgeous Texas Hill Country. They offer:

Even though they’ve expanded quite a bit, they still maintain that small-town, personalized support that makes dealing with them way less painful than those giant corporate providers. Trust me, I’ve dealt with both!
Your Phone Payment Options with GVTC
So let’s get to the heart of why you’re reading this—how to pay that bill by phone. GVTC gives you several options, and I’ve ranked them from most to least convenient (in my humble opinion!).
1. The 24/7 Automated System
This is my go-to option when I realize at 11 PM that my bill is due tomorrow. Just call 1-800-367-4882 and hit option 2. The automated system will walk you through checking your balance and making a payment. You can pay with:
- Your checking account
- Credit card
- Debit card
The best part? This system never sleeps, so you can pay at 3 AM in your pajamas if that’s what works for you!
2. Talk to a Real Human
Sometimes you just need to speak with an actual person, especially if you have questions about your bill or need to adjust something. For this, call the same number (1-800-367-4882) but select option 3 instead.
Their call center folks are available Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 7 PM. In my experience, they’re usually pretty friendly and helpful—not the robotic script-readers you get with some companies.
3. Set Up Recurring Payments
If you’re forgetful like me, this option might save your credit score! Call 800-367-4882 and select option 4 to set up automatic monthly payments from your bank account or credit card.
I switched to this after forgetting my payment three months in a row (oops), and it’s been life-changing. The money comes out on the due date, and I don’t have to remember a thing.
4. Enroll in AutoPay
This is similar to recurring payments but slightly different. With AutoPay, GVTC automatically deducts the total amount due each month on your bill’s due date. To sign up, call 800-367-4882 and select option 1.
The difference is subtle but important—AutoPay adjusts to whatever your bill is that month, while recurring payments are usually a fixed amount. If your usage varies month to month, AutoPay might be better.
5. Get Account Support
Need help with updating payment information or have questions about past statements? Call 800-367-4882 and select option 5 to talk to someone who can help with all that boring but necessary account stuff.
6. Quick Account Info Check
For those times when you just need to know your balance or due date without actually making a payment, call 800-367-4882 and select option 6. The automated system will give you all the basic info without having to talk to anyone.
Paying Your GVTC Bill from Your Smartphone
If you’re always on the go (who isn’t these days?), GVTC’s mobile options might be right up your alley.
The GoGVTC App
The company recently upgraded from their old GVTC Start app to the new GoGVTC app, which is honestly a huge improvement. It’s available for both iOS and Android users.
With this app, you can:
- View your billing history
- Make payments from anywhere
- Securely store your payment details (no more typing in that card number every time!)
- View important notifications
- Report service issues
To get started with the app:
- Open your app store and search for “GVTC”
- Look for the GVTC icon and install it
- Once installed, open the app
- If you don’t have an account already, tap “Don’t have an account? Register now”
- Fill out the registration completely and tap “Continue”
- Answer the security questions and tap “Register” again
- Check your email for a verification link and tap “Verify Account”
- Set your new password and save
- Decide if you want Paperless Billing (I recommend it—save those trees!)
- Set up your recurring payments if desired
Quick Text Payment
This is a newer feature that I absolutely love! If you’re really in a hurry, you can text “PAYMYBILL” to 73529 and follow the prompts to pay using your stored debit/credit card.
I used this last month when I was literally in line at the grocery store and suddenly remembered my bill was due that day. Took less than a minute!
Pro Tips for Paying Your GVTC Bill by Phone
After years of paying my GVTC bills (sometimes at the last possible minute), I’ve picked up a few tricks:
- Save the number in your contacts! Label it something obvious like “GVTC Bill Pay” so you can find it quickly when needed.
- Have your account number ready before you call to speed things up. If you’re not sure where to find it, it’s at the top right corner of your monthly GVTC bill.
- Enter your phone number when prompted for quicker account access if you’re calling from the phone associated with your account.
- Double-check all payment info like bank account and routing numbers before confirming. Nothing worse than thinking you’ve paid only to get a late notice!
- Set up text/email alerts to remind you when your bill is ready. This has saved my butt more times than I can count.
- Put a monthly reminder in your calendar if you’re not using AutoPay. I set mine for 5 days before the due date just to be safe.
What About Online Registration?
If you prefer to register online first before using the phone options, here’s how to do it:
- Visit gvtc.com/manage and click “Register”
- Fill out the registration completely and submit
- Enter your account info to verify your identity
- Look for a congratulations notification
- Check your email for a verification link
- Set your new password
- Decide if you want Paperless Billing
- Set your security phrase
- Choose whether to set up Auto Pay
- You’re all set!

Why I Prefer Phone Payments with GVTC
Personally, I find the phone options super convenient for a few reasons:

- It’s accessible. Not everyone has reliable internet access 24/7, but most of us have a phone.
- It’s forgiving. If you make a mistake, the automated system usually catches it or you can speak with a representative to fix it.
