What is Hilton Head PSD?
Before we jump into the payment details let’s take a quick sec to understand what HHPSD actually is. Hilton Head Public Service District is the organization responsible for providing water and sewer services to residents of Hilton Head Island. They handle everything from water treatment to billing for these essential services.
As someone who’s lived on the island for years I can tell you that HHPSD is committed to providing quality service while also being environmentally conscious (they even have water conservation programs!).
HHPSD Bill Pay Options: How to Pay Your Water Bill
Hilton Head PSD offers several convenient ways to pay your bill. Let’s explore each option:
1. Online One-Time Payment Portal
The fastest and most convenient way to pay your HHPSD bill is through their online payment portal. Here’s how to use the one-time payment option:
- Visit the payment portal at https://hhpsd.smartcmobile.com/portal/One-TimePayment.aspx
- You’ll need to provide:
- Your account number
- Your primary contact phone number
- Click “Next” to proceed to payment details
- Enter your payment information (credit/debit card or bank account)
- Review and confirm your payment
What I love about this option is that you don’t need to create an account or remember another password. It’s perfect for those one-off payments when you’re in a hurry!
2. Setting Up an Online Account for Regular Payments
If you prefer to have access to your billing history and account information, setting up a regular online account is the way to go. Here’s how:
- Call HHPSD Customer Service at (843) 681-5525 (Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm)
- Or email them at [email protected]
- Provide the following information:
- Account Number (if available)
- Billing Name
- Billing Address
- Service Address
- Phone Number
- Email Address
After you provide this info, they’ll send you a temporary password. You can then log in and change your password to something more memorable.
With an online account, you can:
- View your current bill
- Check your account history
- Update your account information
- Pay your bill online
I personally prefer this method because I can see my water usage patterns and keep track of my payment history all in one place.

Additional HHPSD Services Available Online
Beyond just paying your bill, the HHPSD website offers several other useful features:
Water Usage Portal
The Water Usage Portal allows you to monitor your water consumption. This is especially helpful if:
- You want to conserve water
- You’re trying to reduce your bill
- You suspect you might have a leak
- You’re curious about your usage patterns
Account History and Information
With an online account, you can access:
- Past bills and payment history

I find the account history particularly useful when I’m doing my yearly budget review. It helps me see how my water usage changes with the seasons and plan accordingly.
Tips for Efficient HHPSD Bill Payments
After years of paying my HHPSD bills, I’ve picked up a few tricks that make the process even smoother:
-
Set calendar reminders: Even with online payment options, it’s easy to forget due dates. I set a recurring calendar reminder 5 days before my bill is typically due.
-
Keep your account number handy: Store your HHPSD account number somewhere accessible so you don’t have to hunt for it every time you make a one-time payment.
-
Double-check payment information: Always verify your payment details before confirming. It’s much easier to catch a mistake beforehand than to correct it afterward.
-
Consider auto-pay: If you consistently pay your bill in full, setting up automatic payments can save you time and prevent late fees.
-
Use the “Remember Me” feature wisely: The payment portal has a “Remember Me” checkbox. This is convenient but only use it on personal, secure devices.
