Everything You Need to Know About Holyoke Gas & Electric Bill Pay Options in 2025

Post date |

Are you a Holyoke resident looking for convenient ways to pay your utility bills? You’re in the right place! As someone who’s lived in Holyoke for years, I’ve tried pretty much every payment method HG&E offers. Let me walk you through all the options so you can choose what works best for your lifestyle and budget.

The New SmartHub System – What’s Different in 2025

HG&E recently launched their new SmartHub system, making bill payments easier than ever! The transition happened in September 2025, and if you’re reading this, you might be still figuring out how to navigate the new system. Don’t worry – we’ve got you covered.

Important Note: If you were previously on AutoPay, your last statement from the old system (dated before 9/5) will be drafted from the old system. You’ll need to re-enroll in AutoPay through SmartHub, but don’t make a payment on the outstanding balance if it’s from your last statement.

Online Payment Options for HG&E Bills

SmartHub – The New Way to Pay

The SmartHub mobile app and web portal puts the power in your hands! It not only lets you pay bills but offers tools to help save time and money on your utility bills. To register, you’ll need your new account number found on your new statement (issued after 9/8/25).

Here’s how to get started with SmartHub:

  • Register for SmartHub: Visit www.hged.com and click on “Register for SmartHub”
  • Login to SmartHub: If you’ve already registered, simply login to manage your account
  • Make a One-Time Payment: Don’t want to register? No problem! You can still make a one-time payment

Alternative Online Payment Options

If you prefer not to use SmartHub, Holyoke offers other ways to pay online:

  • City of Holyoke Website: Visit holyoke.org/payments and click “Pay online now” to be redirected to their secure payment provider
  • UniPay Gold: The city uses UniBank’s payment system where electronic checks are FREE! Credit cards, PayPal, and Venmo are also accepted (with service fees)

I personally use SmartHub for the convenience but my neighbor swears by the UniPay system because she likes the free e-check option.

Automatic Payments – Never Miss a Bill Again

AutoPay is a lifesaver! I’ve been using it for two years and haven’t had to worry about late fees since When enrolled

  1. You’ll receive your statement at least 15 days before the charge is processed
  2. Your default bank account or credit card is charged directly
  3. You’ll always get your 10% prompt payment discount
  4. It’s completely FREE

There are two ways to enroll in AutoPay

  • Register for SmartHub & Enroll in AutoPay (recommended)
  • Register for AutoPay without a SmartHub account

Phone Payments – Quick and Easy

Need to pay in a hurry? Call (413) 536-9300 (Option 5) to pay 24/7 using:

  • Credit card (MasterCard, Visa, Discover, Amex)
  • Electronic check

Just make sure you have your customer account number ready when you call!

My Personal Experience with HG&E Bill Pay

When I first moved to Holyoke, I used to mail in my payments (and sometimes missed the prompt payment discount). After forgetting to pay on time twice in one year, I switched to AutoPay through SmartHub and haven’t looked back!

The mobile app lets me track my energy usage, which helped me realize I was using way too much electricity during peak hours. By adjusting my habits, I’ve managed to lower my bill by about 15% over the past year.

Final Thoughts

With so many payment options available, there’s really no excuse to miss paying your HG&E bill on time. I recommend SmartHub with AutoPay for the ultimate convenience and to ensure you always get that sweet 10% prompt payment discount!

Remember that the SmartHub system is still relatively new (launched September 2025), so if you have any issues, don’t hesitate to contact HG&E’s customer service. They’re super friendly and helpful.

What’s your preferred way to pay your utility bills? Have you tried the new SmartHub system yet? I’d love to hear about your experience in the comments below!
