Lancaster General Health (LG Health), now part of Penn Medicine, offers several convenient ways to pay your medical bills Whether you prefer online payments, phone, mail, or in-person options, they’ve got you covered. Let’s dive into all these options so you can choose what works best for your situation.
Online Payment Options Through MyLGHealth
The most convenient way to handle your Lancaster General bills is through their online portal called MyLGHealth This platform gives you 24/7 access to your billing information and payment options.
Pay as Guest Option
Don’t have a MyLGHealth account? No problem! You can still pay your bill online using the “Pay as Guest” feature.
To use this option:
- Visit MyLGHealth’s Pay as Guest page
- Enter your guarantor information (the person responsible for paying the bill)
- Follow the prompts to complete your payment
You’ll need some basic information from your statement, including the guarantor name and account number. If you’re not sure what these mean, the website explains that “the guarantor is the person responsible for paying the bill” and this information can be found directly on your statement.
Benefits of Creating a MyLGHealth Account
While the guest payment option is convenient, there are significant advantages to creating a full MyLGHealth account:
- Save payment methods for future use
- View detailed billing information
- Sign up for payment plans
- Review your complete payment history
- Receive electronic statements
- Access your medical records and test results
To sign up, simply click the “Sign up now” button on the payment page. Registration is free and gives you much more control over your healthcare billing.
Alternative Payment Methods
Not everyone wants to pay online, and Lancaster General understands this. They offer several other ways to handle your medical bills:
Phone Payments
If you prefer to speak with someone directly, you can call the Lancaster General billing office at 717-544-7555. Their customer service representatives can process payments over the phone and answer any questions you might have about your bill.
Mail Payments
Traditional mail is still a valid option for paying your Lancaster General bills. To pay by mail:
- Make your check or money order payable to “Lancaster General Health”
- Include your account number on your check
- Send your payment to the address listed on your billing statement
In-Person Payments
Sometimes nothing beats handling things in person. You can make payments at any Lancaster General facility’s billing office during regular business hours. Bring your statement with you to ensure proper crediting of your payment.
Understanding Your Bill
Medical bills can sometimes be confusing. Here’s a quick breakdown of some terms you’ll see on your Lancaster General statement:
- Guarantor: The person responsible for paying the bill (this might be you or someone else)
- Visit Account: How your charges are grouped together, usually representing billing activity for a single visit
- Balance Due: The amount you currently owe after insurance has processed your claim
Each visit to Lancaster General facilities may generate a separate visit account, so don’t be surprised if you receive multiple bills for different services.
Payment Plans and Financial Assistance
Healthcare can be expensive, and Lancaster General recognizes that some patients may need help managing their bills.
Payment Plans
If you cannot pay your full balance at once, LG Health offers flexible payment plan options. These allow you to spread your payments over time in manageable amounts. To set up a payment plan:
- Log into your MyLGHealth account
- Navigate to the billing section
- Select “Payment Plans” and follow the instructions
Alternatively, you can call the billing office directly to discuss payment plan options.
Financial Assistance Programs
Lancaster General is committed to providing care regardless of ability to pay. Their financial assistance program may help reduce or eliminate your medical bills based on your financial situation.
To apply for financial assistance:
- Request an application from any registration desk
- Download the application from the Penn Medicine website
- Call 717-544-1957 to request an application by mail
The application requires documentation of your income and expenses. Don’t hesitate to apply if you’re struggling financially – many patients qualify for assistance but never apply!
Insurance Billing and Claims
Lancaster General works with most major insurance providers, but understanding how your insurance affects your bill is important.
Insurance Verification
Before scheduled procedures, Lancaster General verifies your insurance coverage. However, it’s always a good idea to check with your insurance company about coverage for specific services to avoid surprise bills.
Explanation of Benefits (EOB)
After your insurance processes your claim, you’ll receive an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) document. This isn’t a bill, but it explains what your insurance covered and what you might owe. Your actual bill from Lancaster General will arrive separately.
Co-pays and Deductibles
Remember that co-pays are usually collected at the time of service. Deductibles and coinsurance amounts typically appear on your bill after your insurance processes the claim.
