The Utilities Department offers several options to pay your water and/or wastewater utility bills. These are the only sanctioned vendors allowed to accept your payment. Other third-party websites may delay payment to us and potentially cause penalties and shutoffs.
Please be aware of longer mail delivery times when sending your payment. To ensure your payment is received promptly, you can pay your bill in-person or at one of our drop box locations.
If you have received an urgent notice and are in imminent danger of having your services disconnected, call 941.764.4300 to speak to a customer service agent when making your utility payment.

As a Mary Esther resident myself, I’ve tried pretty much every payment method they offer. In this guide, I’ll walk you through all the different ways you can pay your water bill, the pros and cons of each method, and some tips to help you choose the best option for your lifestyle.
Payment Options Overview
The City of Mary Esther gives residents multiple ways to pay their water bills:
- Online payment system
- ACH bank draft (automatic payments)
- Phone payments
- Secure drop box
- In-person payments at City Hall
- Mail payments
Let’s dive deeper into each option so you can decide which works best for you!
Online Bill Pay – The Most Convenient Option
The online payment system is probably the easiest way to pay your Mary Esther water bill There are two main approaches to online payment
Quick Pay Option
If you just want to make a one-time payment without creating an account, the Quick Pay option is perfect for you.
- Visit the Municipal Online Services page at maryestherfl.municipalonlinepayments.com/maryestherfl/utilities
- Click the “Quick pay” button
- Have your account number ready (it’s on your bill)
- Follow the prompts to complete your payment
- You can pay with Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or debit/credit cards
This method is super fast and doesn’t require creating an account or remembering another password. However, you won’t have access to your payment history or other account features.
Sign In/Register Option
If you prefer more control over your utility account, I recommend creating an online account:
- Go to the same Municipal Online Services page
- Click “Sign in or sign up”
- Create an account with your email address and a password
- Link your utility account using your account number
Once you’re registered, you’ll gain access to:
- Payment history
- Multi-account management
- Multi-bill pay options
- E-Billing services
I personally prefer this method because I can see my previous payments and track my water usage over time. It’s also helpful for budgeting purposes.
ACH Bank Draft – Set It and Forget It
If you’re like me and sometimes forget to pay bills on time, ACH bank drafts are a lifesaver! This option automatically withdraws your payment from your bank account when it’s due.
To set up ACH bank draft:
- Download the ACH Authorization Form (PDF) from the city website
- Complete the form
- Return it to the City of Mary Esther Utility Billing Department
The form is available at cityofmaryesther.com/179/Online-Bill-Pay under “Related Documents.”
The biggest advantage here is that you’ll never miss a payment or incur late fees again. Just make sure you have enough money in your account on the due date!
Pay By Phone – When You’re On The Go
Sometimes life gets hectic, and you realize at the last minute that your bill is due. When that happens, paying by phone can be a real lifesaver.
To pay by phone:
- Call the City of Mary Esther at 850-243-3566
- Have your account information and credit/debit card ready
- Follow the instructions provided by the customer service representative
You can pay with Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or any debit/credit card over the phone. This method is especially useful when you’re traveling or away from home.
Drop Box – The After-Hours Solution
Can’t make it to City Hall during business hours? The secure payment drop box might be your answer.
The drop box is located in the Mary Esther City Hall parking lot at 195 Christobal Road North. It’s available 24/7, which makes it convenient if you work during regular business hours.
Important notes about the drop box:
- Intended for checks and money orders ONLY
- Do NOT place cash in the drop box
- Make sure to include your account number or service address on your payment
I’ve used this method several times when I couldn’t make it to City Hall before 5 p.m., and it works great as long as you plan a couple days ahead of the due date.
In-Person Payments – For Those Who Prefer Face-to-Face Transactions
Some people just prefer the old-fashioned way of paying bills in person, and there’s nothing wrong with that! You might want a receipt immediately or have questions about your bill.
To pay in person:
- Visit Mary Esther City Hall at 195 Christobal Road N, Mary Esther, FL 32569
- Business hours: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Bring your bill and payment method
The advantage here is that you can get immediate confirmation of your payment and ask any questions about your bill. The downside is that you’re limited to business hours and might have to wait in line.
Mail Payments – Plan Ahead
If you prefer to send your payment through the mail, you can do that too. Just remember that mailed payments MUST be RECEIVED by close of business on the 15th to avoid penalties.
When mailing your payment:
- Include your service address on the check or money order
- Mail to:
basic
City of Mary Esther195 Christobal Road NMary Esther, FL 32569 - Allow plenty of time for delivery (I recommend mailing at least 5-7 days before the due date)
I’ve found that this method works fine if you’re organized and remember to send your payment well in advance. But honestly, with all the digital options available, I rarely use this method anymore.

Tips to Avoid Late Fees
Nobody wants to pay extra fees! Here are some tips I’ve learned to avoid those pesky late charges:
- Set up automatic payments through ACH bank draft or recurring credit card payments
- Create calendar reminders on your phone or computer
- Sign up for e-Billing so you get email notifications when your bill is ready
- Pay a few days early to account for processing time
- Keep your emergency contact information updated by calling 850-243-3566 (updates made through the online billing system don’t automatically update emergency contact records)
Update Your Emergency Contact Information
The City of Mary Esther has specifically requested that residents call to update their personal contact information for emergencies. Even if you’ve updated your info in the online water department’s billing system, that doesn’t automatically update their emergency contact records.
To ensure they can reach you during emergencies, please call 850-243-3566 to provide or update your information.

My Personal Experience
I’ve been a Mary Esther resident for over 5 years now, and I’ve tried pretty much all these payment methods. At first, I used to mail my payments, but I occassionally forgot and got hit with late fees. Then I tried the drop box, which worked fine but required me to remember to drive to City Hall.
Now, I’ve created an online account and set up recurring payments. It’s been the most hassle-free option for me, and I haven’t had to worry about a late payment since! The system sends me an email when my bill is ready, and I can log in to see how much water I’ve been using each month. This has actually helped me identify a leaky toilet that was driving up my bill!
Conclusion
Paying your Mary Esther water bill doesn’t have to be a headache. With so many convenient payment options, you can choose the method that fits best with your lifestyle and preferences.
Whether you prefer the convenience of online payments, the security of automatic drafts, or the familiarity of in-person transactions, the City of Mary Esther has you covered. Just remember to make your payment by the 15th to avoid any late fees!
Happy bill paying, neighbors!
