The Ultimate Guide to Paying Your Medina Electric Bill: Easy Options for Every Member

Post date |

Are you tired of scrambling to pay your Medina Electric bill at the last minute? I’ve been there too! As a longtime Medina Electric Cooperative member, I’ve tried pretty much every payment method they offer. Today, I wanna share everything I’ve learned about making your electric bill payments smooth and hassle-free.

Whether you prefer paying online, through an app, or in person, Medina EC has got you covered with multiple options. Let’s dive into all the ways you can pay your Medina electric bill and find the perfect solution for your lifestyle!

SmartHub: The Most Convenient Way to Pay

SmartHub is definitely Medina Electric’s star player when it comes to account management. It’s not just for paying bills – you can use it to track your electricity usage, view billing history, and even report outages.

Here’s what makes SmartHub so awesome:

  • Online access 24/7 through their portal at https://medinaec.smarthub.coop/Login.html
  • Mobile apps available for both Android and Apple devices
  • Usage monitoring to help you manage electricity consumption
  • Paperless billing options to reduce clutter
  • Auto-pay setup for “set it and forget it” convenience

I personally switched to SmartHub about 2 years ago, and it’s been a game-changer for managing my account The usage monitoring feature has actually helped me lower my bill by spotting energy waste patterns!

PayNow: For Quick One-Time Payments

Sometimes you just need to make a quick payment without logging into a full account. That’s where the PayNow option comes in handy. It’s perfect for when you’re in a hurry or don’t want to create a SmartHub account

Phone Payments: Perfect for On-The-Go

Need to pay your bill while you’re busy doing other things? Medina EC offers an automated phone payment system that’s super easy to use.

Just call 1-866-MEC-ELEC (1-866-632-3532) and select Option 3 for the Automated Payment System You can pay with either

  • Credit card
  • Electronic check

One important thing to note: Medina EC staff can’t take your credit card info directly because of privacy regulations. The system will redirect you to the automated system for credit card payments, so have your card ready!

Traditional Mail Payments

If you’re old-school like my dad and prefer sending payments through mail, Medina EC still accepts this method. Just remember:

  1. Include the payment stub from your bill
  2. Mail it to:
Medina Electric CooperativeP.O. Box 33850San Antonio, TX 78265-3850

Just don’t forget that mail takes time to arrive, so send it at least 5-7 days before the due date to avoid late fees. I learned this lesson the hard way last year when a payment arrived late because of a holiday weekend!

In-Person Options: Office, Drive-Thru, and Night Drop

Sometimes there’s just no substitute for handling your payments in person. Medina EC has several member services offices where you can:

  • Pay at the counter
  • Use the drive-thru
  • Drop payments in the night drop box (after hours)

I’ve used the drive-thru option a few times when I was already out running errands, and it’s super quick and convenient!

Payment Stations: MoneyGram and Fidelity Express

Don’t live close to a Medina EC office? No worries! You can pay at numerous payment stations throughout their service area.

MoneyGram

  • Available at many retail locations
  • $1.50 convenience fee
  • Payments post in real-time
  • You’ll need:
    1. Cash for payment + fee
    2. Your account number
    3. Receive Code: 15203

Fidelity Express

  • $1 convenience fee
  • Must have bill stub or account number
  • Make payments before 12 p.m. for same-day processing
  • Accepts cash, check, or money order

I’ve used MoneyGram a couple times when I was running late on my payment, and the real-time posting saved me from a late fee. Worth the $1.50 convenience charge in that situation!

Automatic Payment Options for Worry-Free Billing

If you’re like me and sometimes forget due dates, automatic payments are a lifesaver. Medina EC offers two ways to set this up:

By Phone

Call 1-866-632-3532, choose Option 3, and follow the prompts to set up automatic payments.

Online via SmartHub

  1. Log into SmartHub
  2. Click “Auto Pay Accounts” on the left
  3. Select “Sign Up for Auto Pay” on the right
  4. Add payment info or select existing payment method
  5. Complete the setup process

You can use American Express, Discover, Visa, MasterCard, or any valid bank account. I’ve had mine set up with my credit card for about a year now, and it’s one less thing to worry about each month!

Budget Payment Plans: For Predictable Monthly Bills

Do you hate those summer bill spikes when the AC is running non-stop? Medina EC offers two budget payment options that make monthly bills more predictable:

Levelized Payment

  • Pay a fixed amount monthly based on the previous 12 months’ average
  • Account is “settled up” every 12 months
  • New payment amount calculated annually

Average Payment

  • Pay the average of the previous 11 months plus current month
  • Amount fluctuates slightly each month
  • No annual settle-up needed

Both options require filling out a budget payment agreement form. I’ve tried the Average Payment option and it really helped me budget better during those hot Texas summers!

PrePaid Electricity: Pay As You Go

If deposits are a concern or you prefer to pay for electricity before you use it, PrePaid might be a good fit. This option:

  • Requires no deposit
  • Allows you to make payments in advance
  • Helps some members better manage usage
  • Provides more payment flexibility

I haven’t personally tried this option, but I’ve heard from neighbors that it’s great for vacation homes or rental properties.

Need Help Paying Your Bill?

If you’re struggling to pay your electric bill, don’t wait until you get a disconnection notice! Medina EC can often work with members facing temporary hardships. They also can point you toward assistance programs if you qualify.

Avoiding Scams

An important note: Medina EC has reported an increase in attempted phone scams. NEVER pay if someone calls demanding immediate payment. Legitimate representatives won’t use high-pressure tactics. When in doubt, hang up and call the official number: 1-866-632-3532.

Which Payment Method Is Best?

After trying pretty much all of these options at various times, I’d say the best payment method depends on your personal preferences and situation:

  • Best for tech-savvy members: SmartHub with auto-pay
  • Best for budgeting: Budget Payment Plans
  • Best for avoiding fees: Direct payment through SmartHub, mail, or in-office
  • Best for last-minute payments: MoneyGram locations (real-time posting)
  • Best for avoiding deposits: PrePaid Electricity

Final Thoughts

Medina Electric Cooperative really does try to make bill payment convenient for everyone, whether you’re a smartphone power user or prefer doing things the old-fashioned way. The variety of options means you can find something that fits your lifestyle and preferences.

My personal recommendation? Set up SmartHub with automatic payments for peace of mind, but keep one of the other methods as a backup plan just in case. That’s worked perfectly for me for years now!

And don’t forget that Medina EC is more than just an electric provider – they’re a cooperative, which means they’re owned by the members they serve (that’s you and me!). They offer programs like Operation Round Up, scholarships, and community donations that give back to our communities.

Have you tried any of these payment methods? Which one works best for you? I’d love to hear about your experiences with Medina Electric in the comments below!
