Have you ever found yourself scrambling to pay your Niles utilities bill at the last minute? Maybe you’ve wondered if there’s an easier way to handle those monthly payments without the hassle. Well, you’re definitely not alone! As someone who’s lived in Niles for years, I’ve tried pretty much every payment method available, and I’m excited to share what I’ve learned with you.
Understanding Your Niles Utilities Bill Payment Options
The City of Niles offers several convenient ways to pay your utility bills, whether you’re in Michigan or Ohio. Let’s break down all the different methods so you can choose what works best for your lifestyle.
In-Person Payment Options
Sometimes, nothing beats the reliability of paying in person. Here’s where and how you can do that:
Niles, Michigan

- Lunch Break: Lobby closed 12:00pm-1:00pm (Drive-thru remains open)
- Payment Methods: Cash, check, money order, credit/debit cards
- Convenience Features: Two drive-thru lanes on the east side of the building
The Michigan utility office has a first-floor lobby that’s super accessible. I find the drive-thru option especially handy when I’m in a rush!
Niles, Ohio
- Location: 34 West State Street, Niles, Ohio 44446
- Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:00pm

Drop Box Payment Options
Both Niles locations offer drop boxes for after-hours payments:
- Michigan: Located on the east side of the building at 333 N 2nd St
- Ohio: Available at the City Building
Pro tip Don’t leave cash in these drop boxes! I made that mistake once, and it was super stressful wondering if my payment would make it safely. Stick to checks or money orders for drop box payments

My Personal Experience with Niles Utilities
I’ve been a Niles resident for over 8 years now, and I’ve tried just about every payment method. Initially, I would drive to the utility office each month, which was fine but took time out of my day.
When they introduced online payments, I immediately switched. Yes, there’s a small convenience fee ($3.95), but honestly, the time and gas money I save makes it totally worth it. The customer portal is pretty straightforward – not the most modern interface, but it gets the job done.
Last winter, we had that crazy ice storm and lost power for two days. I called the after-hours emergency line, and I was impressed with how quickly they responded. The staff was super helpful and kept us updated on restoration times.
Common Questions About Niles Utility Payments
Can I pay multiple utility bills with one transaction?
Yes, but be aware that the online payment system has a $500 maximum per transaction. For larger amounts, you’ll need to make multiple payments.
What happens if I miss a payment?
Late fees will be applied, and continued non-payment may result in service disconnection. It’s always best to contact the billing department immediately if you’re having trouble making a payment.
Can someone else pay my bill for me?
Absolutely! Both cities allow third-party payments. The person paying just needs your account number or your address.
Is there a way to view my usage history?
Yes, both cities offer account management tools through their online portals where you can view your usage patterns and payment history.
Final Thoughts
Paying your Niles utilities bill doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming. With so many payment options available—from traditional in-person payments to modern digital methods—you can choose what works best for your lifestyle.
I personally recommend setting up automatic payments if you have a stable financial situation. It’s literally changed my life not having to remember one more monthly task!
Whatever method you choose, just remember to keep your account information handy and don’t hesitate to contact customer service if you have questions. The staff at both Niles utility departments are friendly and helpful, and they’re there to assist you.

Utility Billing (Water/Sewer) – NEW AND IMPROVED PAYMENT PLATFORM
For utility billing online payments and services, click on the following link: NEW Utility Billing Portal (InvoiceCloud)
New Utility Billing Platform – The Village of Niles has switched to a new platform for utility billing called “InvoiceCloud.” Your previous login credentials for online utility billing will not work on this web site. Residents have the option of creating an account on this new utility billing platform, or to make a one-time payment without logging in (your account number and customer ID from your water bill are required).
Utility Billing Rate Changes – At the unanimous recommendation of the Public Works Committee, the Village Board in January and February 2025 voted to approve new utility billing rates to address EPA lead service line replacement mandates. All bills issued after May 1, 2025 will reflect a sewer rate of $0.96 per 1,000 gallons of water used, a water rate of $11.15 per 1,000 gallons of water used, and a new monthly water usage charge. The user charge for customers with 5/8” or 1” meters, which includes most residents, will be $5 per month or $15 per quarterly bill. Customers with larger meters will have higher user charges. Additional rate increases will occur every May. See tables below for rates.
Vehicle Window Sticker Renewal
The online portal is open for May 1 – June 30.
Pre-printed applications will be mailed to residents. Most renewals, spelling corrections and vehicle information changes can be completed on the portal. Renewals involving a price change cannot be made online.
If your pre-printed application does not show your birth date or if you are receiving the senior discount for the first time, you must show a valid drivers license, in person or send a copy via mail, to receive the senior rate. Call (847) 588-8000 for assistance.
