Payment Options Available Through REMC

Rutherford EMC offers several convenient ways to pay your bill. Let’s explore each option:

1. Online Payments via Member Services Portal

The quickest and most convenient method! Log into your account through the Member Services Portal and make payments using:

  • Credit cards
  • Debit cards
  • Electronic checks from your bank account

2. AutoPay

Never miss a payment again! With AutoPay, your bill amount is automatically withdrawn from your chosen payment method on or after the due date. You can set this up through:

  • The Member Services Portal (for credit/debit cards)
  • By calling 828-245-1621 or toll-free at 1-800-521-0920 (for bank draft forms)

Important note: If you need to make changes to your AutoPay settings, you must do it yourself online. REMC employees cannot make changes to your AutoPay account.

3. Pay by Phone

REMC’s automated telephone system lets you pay your bill from any touchtone phone, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Just call any of these office numbers:

  • Forest City: 828-245-1621 or 1-800-521-0920
  • Cherryville: 704-435-5401 or 1-800-228-5331
  • Morganton: 828-584-1410 or 1-800-228-9756
  • Marion: 828-652-2136
  • Gastonia: 704-629-6226
  • Lincolnton: 704-735-5381

4. Draft Payments

Similar to AutoPay, draft payments automatically withdraw funds from your checking account or credit/debit card to pay your monthly bill. The difference is that draft payment changes must be made by calling REMC directly – they can’t be modified online.

5. Pay by Mail

If you prefer traditional methods, you can mail your payment to:

Rutherford Electric Membership Corporation
P.O. Box 1569
Forest City, North Carolina 28043

Remember to include the bottom portion of your bill with your payment and allow sufficient mailing time.

6. Pay at an Office

REMC has multiple office locations where you can pay in person during business hours (Monday through Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM):

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Even the best systems sometimes have hiccups. Here are solutions to common problems:

Forgot Your Password?

No worries! On the login page, click “Forgot Password” and follow the prompts to reset it. You’ll typically receive a temporary password via email.

Payment Not Showing Up?

Online payments usually post immediately, but bank processing times can vary. If your payment isn’t showing up after 48 hours, contact REMC customer service.

Website Access Problems?

Try these fixes:

  • Clear your browser cache and cookies
  • Try a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari)
  • Check your internet connection
  • Ensure you’re using the correct URL

AutoPay Not Working?

Verify that:

  • Your payment method hasn’t expired
  • There are sufficient funds in your account
  • Your AutoPay settings are correctly configured

Electronic Billing: The Paperless Alternative

Want to reduce clutter and help the environment? Sign up for Electronic Billing through REMC. Instead of receiving a paper bill, you’ll get an email notification when your new bill is ready to view.

To enroll:

  1. Log into the Member Services Portal
  2. Navigate to the billing preferences section
  3. Select the electronic billing option
  4. Confirm your email address

E-billing is free, convenient, and environmentally responsible. Plus, you can still print your bills if needed for record-keeping.

REMC Mobile Apps: Bill Pay On the Go

Did you know REMC offers mobile apps? These apps allow you to:

  • View and pay your bill from your smartphone
  • Report outages
  • Check outage maps
  • Monitor energy usage
  • Receive important notifications

The apps are available for both iOS and Android devices. Just search “REMC” in your app store to download.

PrePay Information: An Alternative Payment Option

If traditional billing doesn’t suit your needs, REMC also offers a PrePay program. This works like a prepaid phone – you add money to your account in advance and your usage draws from that balance.

Benefits of PrePay include:

  • No security deposits
  • No monthly bills
  • Pay as you go
  • Daily usage monitoring
  • Automatic low-balance alerts

Contact REMC directly to learn more about their PrePay options and requirements.

Security Considerations for Online Bill Pay

We take our financial security seriously, and REMC does too. Their online payment system uses industry-standard encryption and security measures to protect your personal and payment information.

To keep your account extra secure:

  • Use a strong, unique password
  • Don’t share your login credentials
  • Log out after each session
  • Update your password periodically
  • Be wary of phishing emails that ask for account information

What Other Members Are Saying

I’ve talked with several REMC members who’ve switched to online bill pay, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Mary from Forest City says, “I used to forget to mail my payment all the time. Now with AutoPay, I haven’t paid a late fee in three years!”

John in Cherryville adds, “Being able to see my usage patterns online helped me identify when my heat pump wasn’t working efficiently. I ended up saving hundreds on repairs and lower bills.”

Wrapping It Up

REMC’s online bill payment system offers convenience, security, and control over your utility payments. Whether you prefer making one-time payments, setting up automatic drafts, or using your phone to manage your account, there’s an option that fits your lifestyle.

By taking advantage of these digital tools, you’ll save time, reduce paper waste, and gain valuable insights into your energy consumption patterns. Plus, you’ll never have to worry about missing a payment deadline again!
