Are you tired of rushing to the mail box or driving to the Town Hall just to pay your Sharon town bills? I know I was! After living in Sharon for over 6 years, I finally discovered how easy it is to manage and pay my tax bills online. Let me walk you through the entire process of using the Town of Sharon’s online bill pay system – it’s a real time-saver!
What Bills Can You Pay Online in Sharon?
Before we dive into the how-to, let’s talk about what exactly you can pay online. The Town of Sharon offers online payment options for
- Real estate taxes
- Personal property taxes
- Motor vehicle taxes
- Motor vehicle supplemental taxes
I remember when I first moved to Sharon and had to figure all this out. The online system was a game-changer for me especially during tax season!
Getting Started with Sharon’s Online Bill Payment
The Town of Sharon uses a platform called “MyTaxBill” for online payments. You can access it directly at https://www.mytaxbill.org/inet/bill/home.do?town=sharon or through the town’s official website at https://www.townofsharon.net/home/pages/online-payments.
When you visit the site, you’ll notice it’s pretty straightforward. The homepage displays:
- Your account status
- Any current bills
- Total amount due
- Search options
One thing I really like is that the system shows when your account info was last updated. Currently, it shows “Account info last updated on Oct 12, 2025” – so you know you’re looking at the most current information.
Searching for Your Bills
This is where a lot of people get stuck, but it’s actually super easy! The system gives you several ways to find your bills:
-
Search by Name Enter your last name followed by a space and your first initial (like “SMITH J”) or your business name without commas
-
Search by Property Location: Enter your property number and/or property name. Pro tip: Don’t include words like “Street,” “Court,” or “Lane” as they might be abbreviated differently in the system.
-
Search by Bill #: Enter the bill year, bill type, and bill number.
-
Search by Unique ID: If your bill shows an account number, you can enter it here.
-
Search by List Number: For motor vehicles only – enter the link year, link type, and link number.
I usually just use the name search option – it’s quickest for me. Just remember not to include any punctuation and it’s not case sensitive.
Viewing Your Bills
After you search, you’ll see a list of your bills. The system lets you filter them by:
- All bills
- Due Now
- Balance Due
This is super helpful when you want to just see what needs to be paid immediately vs. what’s coming up later.
For each bill, you’ll see:
- The bill type (real estate, personal property, motor vehicle, etc.)
- Amount due
- Due date
Making Payments
Here’s where the real convenience comes in! To pay a bill:
- Select the bill(s) you want to pay
- Click on “View Cart”
- Review your selections
- Click “Checkout”
- Enter your payment information
The system accepts credit cards and electronic checks. There is a small convenience fee for using a credit card (typically around 2.95%), but I find it worth it for the convenience. Electronic checks usually have a lower fee.
One thing to remember – payments are processed immediately, but they might not show up on your account right away. The system usually updates overnight, so don’t panic if your payment doesn’t reflect immediately.
IRS Payment Records
A super helpful feature I discovered is the ability to view your IRS payment records for income tax purposes. Look for the “IRS Payment Records” section on the site. You can:
- Select the tax year (currently showing 2024)
- Check the applicable accounts (real estate, personal property, motor vehicle, etc.)
- Click “View IRS” for a listing of all payments made in that year
This saved me tons of time when I was doing my taxes last year!
Common Questions & Issues
“I can’t find my bill in the system!”
This happened to me once. Double-check that you’re entering your information correctly. If you still can’t find it, the bill might be too new or already paid. The Town of Sharon updates the system regularly, but there might be a slight delay.
“Is it safe to enter my credit card info?”
Yes! The Town of Sharon’s online payment system uses secure encryption to protect your information. I’ve been using it for years without any issues.
“What if I need a receipt?”
After completing your payment, you’ll have the option to print a receipt or have one emailed to you. I always opt for the email – it’s easier to keep track of.
“Can I set up automatic payments?”
Unfortunately, the current system doesn’t offer automatic payments. You’ll need to log in each time a bill is due. I just set reminders on my phone calendar.
Important Disclaimers to Keep in Mind
The Town of Sharon wants us to know that:
- The information on the website comes from municipal databases
- If there’s a discrepancy between the website and official records, the municipality’s records prevail
- Errors on the website don’t excuse or lessen your actual tax liability
- If you think there’s an error, contact the Revenue Collection Office directly
I appreciate their transparency about this stuff. It’s good to know where we stand!
Tips from a Sharon Resident
After using this system for several years, here are my personal tips:
-
Mark the due dates on your calendar: Even with online payments, you still need to remember when bills are due.
-
Keep your receipts: I create a special folder in my email just for Sharon tax receipts.
-
Check the site a few weeks before typical tax due dates: Sometimes bills are ready before they arrive in the mail.
-
Remember that real estate taxes are typically due twice a year: Usually around July and January, but double-check the exact dates.
-
Use the IRS records feature in tax season: It makes filing so much easier!
What to Do If You Need Help
If you run into any issues with the online payment system, there are several ways to get help:
- Click the “Contact” link at the bottom of the payment website
- Call the Town of Sharon Tax Collector’s Office
- Visit the Town Hall in person during business hours
I’ve had to call once when I wasn’t sure if my payment went through, and they were very helpful.
Final Thoughts
The Town of Sharon’s online bill pay system has made my life so much easier. No more rushing to the post office or trying to find my checkbook at the last minute!
While the system isn’t perfect (I wish they had an app!), it’s definitely convenient and secure. The ability to search for bills, view payment history, and make quick payments from home is worth the small convenience fee.
Whether you’re a new Sharon resident or you’ve been living here for years but still paying the old-fashioned way, I highly recommend giving the online payment system a try. It’s one of those small changes that can make managing your household finances so much easier.
