Everything You Need to Know About Paying Your Gastonia Electric Bill in 2025

Post date |

Gastonia-Scurry Special Utility District offers a wide variety of convenient payment options for our customers. Simply choose the option that best suits your needs.

Are you a resident of Gastonia struggling to figure out the best way to pay your electric bill? Well, you’re not alone! As someone who’s lived in Gastonia for years, I’ve explored all the different ways to pay my Two Rivers Utilities bill, and I’m excited to share what I’ve learned with you

Gastonia offers a bunch of convenient options for paying your electric and utility bills. Whether you’re tech-savvy or prefer the traditional methods, there’s definitely something that’ll work for your lifestyle. Let’s dive into all the payment methods available to Gastonia residents in 2025!

No-Cost Payment Options (That Won’t Cost Ya Extra!)

Automatic Bank Draft – The “Set It and Forget It” Method

If you’re like me and constantly forgetting to pay bills on time, this option is a real lifesaver! The City of Gastonia offers an Automatic Bank Draft Program that’s totally FREE. Here’s how it works:

  • The city still sends you a monthly bill showing your charges
  • You’ll see the date when the amount will be drafted from your bank account (typically 14 days after the bill date)
  • No more writing checks, paying postage, or worrying about late fees
  • No risk of disconnection due to forgotten payments

Enrolling is super easy. Just fill out the bank draft application form on the city website, and it’s submitted securely to Utility Customer Service. I switched to this method two years ago and haven’t had to stress about bill payments since!

Payment by Mail – The Classic Approach

If you prefer the traditional route, you can still mail your payment. Your monthly bill comes with a blue window envelope specifically for this purpose. Here’s what to do

  • Tear off the lower bill stub portion to include with your payment
  • Make sure the return address shows through the window on the envelope
  • Write your account number on your check or money order (this helps if things get separated)

If you’ve lost your blue envelope or don’t have your bill handy, just mail payments to:

City of GastoniaPO Box 580068Charlotte NC 28258-0068

24-Hour Dropbox Locations – For the Night Owls

Sometimes you remember to pay your bill at the most inconvenient times. No worries! Gastonia provides 24-hour payment drop boxes for after-hours payments:

  • Behind the Garland Business Center on York Street
  • Outside Cramerton Town Hall

For these dropbox locations, remember:

  • Use check or money order only (no cash!)
  • Include the payment remittance portion of your bill
  • Make sure your name, address, and account number are clearly noted
  • Be aware that there are cut-off times posted at each location for same-day processing

Cash Payment Options

Payment Kiosks – For Cash Payments

If you prefer paying in cash (I sometimes do when I’ve sold stuff at the flea market), Gastonia has installed five Automated Bill Payment Centers (Kiosks) throughout the city. These work similar to bank ATMs but can process cash payments. Just bring your 8-digit City of Gastonia account number and address info.

The kiosks are located at:

  • Food Lion – 2601 S. New Hope Rd (Open 7:00 am until 11:00 pm)
  • Food Lion – 1024 W. Hudson Blvd (Open 7:00 am until 10:00 pm)
  • Food Lion – 111 W. Garrison Blvd (Open 7:00 am until 10:00 pm)
  • WOW Supermarket – 2557 W. Franklin Blvd (Open 8:00 am until 9:00 pm)
  • Garland Business Center – 150 S York St. (outside, 24/7 access)

Pro tip: Payments made after 5:00 pm, on weekends, or holidays will be posted the next business day. So if you’re facing a deadline, plan accordingly!

The city recently introduced these new bill pay kiosks to make paying utility bills more convenient. They’ve even made a video explaining how to use them (check the city website for the tutorial).

Other Payment Options (With Convenience Fees)

Pay By Phone – Anytime, Anywhere

Need to pay your bill while you’re away on vacation? No problemo! You can pay by phone using MasterCard, VISA, Discover, or electronic check by calling 1-888-484-9465.

Make sure you have:

  • Your account number
  • Billing zip code

Just be aware that as of July 1, 2024, the convenience fees changed. The fee is now in increments of $2.95, increasing at each multiple of $400. Also, payments made after 5:00 pm, weekends, or holidays will post the next business day.

Pay Online – The Digital Way

This is my personal favorite method! You can pay online 24/7 with a debit card, credit card, or bank account at www.gastonianc.gov. Just look for the “Pay My Bill” link on the main page of the website.

The same convenience fee structure applies: increments of $2.95, increasing at each multiple of $400 (effective July 1, 2024).

Payment Kiosks – Debit/Credit/E-Check

The five kiosk locations mentioned earlier also accept debit cards, credit cards, or check payments. You’ll need your 8-digit City of Gastonia account number and address information. The payment processor charges the same convenience fees ($2.95 per $400 increment).

In-Person Payments – Face-to-Face Service

If you prefer the human touch when paying bills, you can make payments at:

  • Ace Cash Express at 2597 W. Franklin Blvd (customers are charged a $1.00 convenience fee)

Remember that payments made after 5:00 pm, weekends, or holidays post the next business day.

Utility Customer Service Information

If you have questions or need assistance with your bill, the Utility Customer Service department is super helpful. They handle:

Tips for Managing Your Gastonia Electric Bill

I’ve learned a few tricks over the years that have helped me keep my utility costs down:

  1. Take advantage of rebate programs – Gastonia offers rebates for certain energy-efficient upgrades!

  2. Consider an energy audit – The city offers energy audit services to help identify ways to reduce your consumption.

  3. Pay attention to due dates – Missing payments can lead to reconnection fees that are totally avoidable.

  4. Report streetlight outages – While not directly related to your bill, reporting outages helps maintain community safety.

  5. Check for leaks – If your water bill suddenly spikes, you might have a leak. The city has a leak adjustment request process that might help.

Final Thoughts

As a long-time Gastonia resident, I’ve found that the city has really stepped up its game when it comes to making bill payment convenient. With so many options available, there’s really no excuse for missing a payment deadline!

My personal recommendation? Set up automatic bank draft if you have stable finances—it’s free and eliminates the stress of remembering due dates. If you prefer more control, the online payment option is super convenient despite the small fee.

Whatever method you choose, just remember that staying current on your utility bills keeps your services running smoothly and avoids those nasty late fees and reconnection charges.

Have you tried any of these payment methods? Which one works best for you? If you have any questions about paying your Gastonia electric bill that I didn’t cover, feel free to reach out to the city’s helpful customer service team!

Remember, the City of Gastonia Utility Customer Service is there to help with any questions or concerns about your electric bill or other utility services. They’re just a phone call away at 704-866-6714 during regular business hours.
