Are you a BARC Electric customer looking for the easiest ways to pay your monthly bill? I’ve been there – trying to figure out which payment method is most convenient can be confusing, especially when you’re already juggling work, family, and everything else life throws at you.
As someone who’s been a BARC customer for years, I’ve tried pretty much all their payment options, and today I’m sharing everything I know about paying your BARC Electric bill efficiently.
Quick Overview of BARC Electric Payment Methods
BARC offers several secure and convenient options for paying your electric bill:
- Phone payments (automated system)
- Online payments (registered or non-registered)
- Mobile app payments
- Auto draft
- In-person office payments
- Night deposit box
- Vanilla Direct (third-party cash payment locations)
- Levelized billing program
Let’s dive deeper into each option so you can pick what works best for your lifestyle!
The NEW Customer Portal: Your First Stop
Before we get into specific payment methods, it’s worth mentioning that BARC has a NEW customer portal If you’re planning to manage your account online, bookmark this address
https://barcelectric.smarthub.coop/ui/#/login
This portal is where you’ll access online payments account management and other services.
Phone Payments: Quick and Easy
If you prefer handling bills over the phone, BARC makes this super easy:
- Call (800) 846-2272
- Select option one and then option one again
- Follow the automated prompts
Pro Tip: The first time you use the phone system, you’ll need to create a 4-digit PIN of your choice. Make sure to write it down somewhere safe!
The phone system allows you to pay both your electric and internet accounts, which is super convenient if you have both services.
Online Bill Payment: Never Leave Your Couch
This is honestly my preferred method – I can pay my bill while binging Netflix, lol. BARC offers two online payment options:
1. Pay Now (No Registration Required)
- Visit the BARC website
- Click “Pay Now”
- Enter your account information
- Make a one-time payment
2. Register on the Member Services Center
- Create an account on the customer portal
- Log in whenever you need to pay
- Your payment posts immediately to your account
- View your payment history and usage data
One thing I love about the registered option is being able to see my energy usage patterns. It’s helped me cut my bill by identifying when I’m using the most electricity.
BARC Mobile App: Payment on the Go
For those of us who do everything on our phones, the BARC mobile app is perfect:
- Download the app to your smartphone
- Log in with your account credentials
- Make payments anytime, anywhere
I’ve found the app super useful when traveling. One time I almost forgot to pay my bill while on vacation, but was able to take care of it from my hotel room in just a couple minutes!
Auto Draft: Set It and Forget It
Auto draft is perfect for busy people who don’t want to worry about remembering to pay:
- Your payment is automatically withdrawn from your bank account
- Never worry about late fees
- Option to receive electronic statements
I used auto draft for about two years, and the biggest advantage was never having to think about my bill. The only reason I switched was because I wanted more control over exactly when the money left my account.
Adding Multiple Accounts Under One Login
If you have multiple BARC accounts (maybe a rental property or business), you can manage them all in one place:
- Log in to the new portal
- Click “Settings” on the left-hand side
- Click “Register Accounts”
- Click “add accounts”
- Enter the information for your additional accounts
This feature has been a lifesaver for me since I help manage my elderly parents’ account alongside my own.
In-Office and Night Deposit Box Payments
If you prefer the traditional approach:
- Visit the BARC office in Millboro during business hours (8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
- Make payments by cash, check, or credit card
- Or use the night deposit box located at the top of the steps to the left of the front entrance
Note: Due to security reasons, BARC no longer accepts credit card payments over the phone, so in-person or online are your options for credit card payments.
Vanilla Direct: Cash Payments at Retail Stores
Need to pay with cash but can’t make it to the BARC office? Vanilla Direct might be the solution:
- Take your bill (with barcode) to participating retail stores
- Pay in cash at the register
- Your payment is posted to your BARC account
- Note: There’s a $1.50 convenience fee for this service

Levelized Billing: Smooth Out Those Seasonal Peaks
If you hate those summer or winter bill spikes, levelized billing could be your new best friend:
- Pay approximately the same amount each month
- Helps with budgeting
- Especially useful for homes with seasonal heating/cooling needs
To sign up, contact a Member Services Representative or use the SmartHub portal.
Understanding Your BARC Bill
Sometimes just understanding your bill better can help with payment planning. BARC offers:
- Sample bills to view on their website
- An Energy Usage Tool to help understand consumption
- Customer service representatives who can explain charges
What If I’m Struggling to Pay My Bill?
We’ve all been through tight financial times. If you’re having trouble paying your BARC electric bill, they offer:
- Billing assistance programs
- Payment arrangements in some cases
- Energy efficiency tips to reduce future bills
The key is to contact them before your bill is due if you know you’ll have trouble paying. They’re usually willing to work with customers who communicate proactively.
My Personal Experience with BARC Electric Payments
When I first moved to the area, I started with in-office payments because I wanted to get familiar with the company. Over time, I switched to online payments for convenience, and now I use a mix of the mobile app and auto draft depending on my financial situation that month.
What I’ve learned is that BARC really does try to make payment convenient – there’s an option for pretty much every preference. Their customer service has always been helpful when I’ve had questions about my bill or payment options.
Final Thoughts
Paying your BARC Electric bill doesn’t have to be complicated. With so many payment options available, you can choose what fits your lifestyle and preferences.
If you’re tech-savvy, the online portal or mobile app will probably be your best bet. If you prefer more traditional methods, phone payments or in-person options are available too.
Whatever method you choose, just make sure you keep track of due dates to avoid any late fees or service interruptions!
