Have you ever been rushing around at the last minute trying to pay your water bill before it’s due? I’ve been there too! As a resident of Danville for over 7 years, I’ve learned all the ins and outs of handling those monthly utility payments. Today, I’m gonna share everything you need to know about paying your Danville water bill in 2025.
Understanding Your Danville Water Bill
Before we dive into payment methods, let’s talk about how the billing system actually works in Danville, Indiana.
The utility billing cycle starts with meter readings around the 1st of each month. Bills are then mailed by the 15th of the same month. Your payment is due on the 4th of each month at the Utility Billing Office located at 49 N. Wayne Street in Danville Town Hall.
If you miss the due date? Well, a 10% penalty gets applied on the 5th of the month Nobody wants that! And if you continue to miss payments, disconnect notices are mailed around the 8th of the month to accounts with outstanding balances
Even worse – according to town ordinances there’s a $50.00 disconnect fee charged on all accounts disconnected due to failure to pay. You’ll need to pay this fee before your service gets turned back on.
Multiple Ways to Pay Your Danville Water Bill
The good news is that Danville offers several convenient ways to pay your utility bills. Here are all your options:
1. Online Payment
This is honestly my favorite method because I can pay at 2 AM in my pajamas if I want to!
You can pay online through the Municipal Online Payments system at:

The online portal gives you two main options:
- Quick Pay: Perfect if you just need to pay your bill. No login necessary – you’ll just need your account number.
- Sign in or sign up: Create an account to view details, manage single & multi-accounts, and make multi-bill payments.
2. By Phone
If you prefer talking to a real person or using an automated system, you can pay by phone at 317-745-4180 ext. 7000.
3. By Mail
The old-fashioned way still works great! Send your payment to:

Just remember to allow enough time for mail delivery so your payment arrives before the due date!
4. Drop Box
In a hurry? Use the convenient drop box located in the traffic circle outside the main entrance to Town Hall at the base of the bell display. I’ve used this many times when I realized my bill was due the next day!
5. Walk-In Payment
If you prefer face-to-face interactions, you can always pay in person at:
Clerk-Treasurer’s Office/Utility Billing & Collections
49 N. Wayne Street, Suite #110
Danville Town Hall
Just remember their office hours are Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm, and they’re closed between 12pm to 1pm for lunch.
6. ACH Debit
For those who want a “set it and forget it” approach, ACH debit applications are available online. This lets the payment be automatically withdrawn from your account each month.

We all go through tough times. If you’re finding it difficult to pay your water bill, it’s better to be proactive than to wait until your service gets disconnected.

Tips for Managing Your Danville Water Bill
After years of living in Danville, here are some tips I’ve learned for keeping those water bills manageable:
1. Set Up Reminders
I use my phone’s calendar to set reminders 5 days before my bill is due. This gives me plenty of time to make arrangements if needed.
2. Consider Automatic Payments
The ACH debit option has saved me from late fees multiple times. Once it’s set up, you don’t have to worry about remembering to pay each month.
3. Check for Leaks Regularly
Even a small leak can cause your water bill to skyrocket. Check your toilets, faucets, and water heater periodically.
4. Use the Utility Bill Calculator
Danville offers a utility bill calculator on their website that can help you estimate your costs and plan your budget accordingly.
5. Keep Your Contact Information Updated
Make sure the Utility Department has your current phone number and email address so they can contact you if there are any issues with your account or service.
Recent Updates to the Utility Billing System
It’s worth noting that there was an issue with the utility billing system reported on July 19, 2024, due to a defect found in a Windows content update. While this has likely been resolved by now (October 2025), it’s always good to be aware that technical issues can occasionally affect the billing system.
