When a child is admitted to Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) for special care, they may not be able to feed directly at the breast due to their healthcare needs. You may need to use an electric pump to start and/or maintain your milk production. A Medela SymphonyR double-electric breast pump will be available for you to use in the hospital.
Because you will likely need to pump outside of as well as in the hospital, you will need to have a breast pump at home too. If you already have a double electric breast pump, you may want to keep using your own pump for milk expression at home. If you do not have a personal pump or if you prefer the Medela SymphonyR pump you can rent a hospital-grade pump through the CHOP Lactation Rental Station.
