Tips for Managing Your Ozark Electric Bill
Beyond just paying your bill, here are some tips I’ve learned to make managing your Ozark Electric account easier:
-
Sign up for paperless billing – It’s better for the environment and reduces clutter in your home.
-
Check out their rebate programs – Ozark Electric offers rebates for energy-efficient upgrades. I got $200 back when I installed my new heat pump last year!
-
Use the Phantom Load Calculator on their website to identify energy wasters in your home. I was shocked at how much my old appliances were costing me!
-
Consider “Understanding Demand” – Learning about peak usage times can help you save money by shifting your electricity usage to off-peak hours.
-
Check for capital credits – As a cooperative, Ozark Electric returns excess revenue to members in the form of capital credits. Make sure you’re getting yours!
What to Do During Power Outages
While we’re talking about managing your Ozark Electric account, it’s worth noting what to do during power outages. The cooperative has an outage map on their website, and you can report outages through the MyOzarks app.
As of my last check (June 18), there were approximately 850 members experiencing power outages. The crews work diligently to restore power as quickly as possible, but it’s always good to be prepared with:
- Flashlights and batteries
- Portable phone chargers
- Non-perishable food
- A plan for staying warm or cool depending on the season
